Our Miss Stella

A Tribute to an Amazing Katrina Survivor!

Miss Stella March 23, 2006

Stella came back from the second trip to Mississippi (September, 2005), she survived a hurricane. She came to us torn and tattered, with a big goofy golden retriever friend we can only assume she made while surviving on the streets after the storm. Stella found her way into our hearts, with her big ears, and gentle way about her.

She found a foster mom, Liz, whom she loved very much. Liz gave her everything. She gave her food, medicine when she needed, a warm place to sleep and most of all love. Liz opened her heart to Stella, a dog that probably never knew love.

We knew Stella was sick when we got her, we just didn't know how sick. We thought we fixed it. We thought we were home free, that Stella would be on her way to recovery and soon looking for a new family to love.

Stella went to the vet clinic with a sore eye, which turned out to be only the surface of her illness.Stella was very sick, she has bloody diarrhea, a hemorrhaging eye and changes in her lungs. All of these symptoms could have been many things, but the fact was none of it was good and none of it was treatable. All the money in the world would not have saved our Stella.

Stella passed over the Rainbow bridge last night.
