    BARKS Receives Grant
from PetSmart Charities to Neuter over 100 Additional Pets

Byram, NJ August 2008 _ BARKS received a grant this week to increase its number of spay/neuter surgeries by over 50 percent. The organization’s 10-year-old pet sterilization program successfully alters more than 250 animals per year on average to proactively fight the area’s dire pet overpopulation problem.

The program offers low cost spay/neuter services for pets residing in the Sussex county area. BARKS goal is to reduce pet overpopulation in the greater Sussex county area by 20 percent over the next several years. For more information about this program and to see if you qualify, visit www.barksinc.com

“We are excited to increase the total number of spay/neuter surgeries at our organization,” said Sheryl Thole, President of BARKS. “We hope that our spay/neuter program will soon become a model for other rescues across the county.” "BARKS efforts to promote and facilitate pet adoptions in Sussex County are making important progress toward ending pet overpopulation in that community," said Susana Della Maddalena, Executive Director of PetSmart Charities. "Innovative programs like this are what is chipping away at the problem nationwide, making communities better places for pets along the way.”
