Cookie Recipes

These are really easy! You can mix the  batter in  your bread  machine for some, then roll them out  and cut in squares - they end up like little pillows. You  can use different cookie cutters and do it the right way,  but you will  finally realize that the only one  noticing  that they are in different shapes is YOU!!!! These  recipes use only natural stuff, so hopefully they won't  bother any allergies.

There are cookies that are cooked and  those that are not. You choose!

APPLE/CINNAMON  Dog Cookies

1 1/2 cups unbleached flour
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/8 cup nonfat dry milk
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup smooth applesauce
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 to 3/4 cup water

(These are the instructions for making  by hand, but if you mix in a bread  maker, follow maker  instructions)

1. Stir together the dry ingredients in  a large bowl. Add the applesauce and egg, and blend  thoroughly. Then add the water gradually, stirring with a   wooden  spoon. The dough should be very stiff; if not add  a little more flour. Knead the dough with your hands to  create a smooth texture.
2. Roll the dough 1/4 inch thick. Use a  cookie cutter to cut the cookies (or cut in squares).  Place the cookies about 1/2 inch apart on lightly greased  cookie sheets.
3. Bake in preheated oven 350 degrees for  about 38 to 50 minutes. The cookies should be lightly  browned on the outside and should not be moist on  the  inside. Turn the oven off and let cookies stay inside for  five hours or overnight to let them harden. Makes four  dozen 3"x1" cookies.
