Proceeds from this yard sale will go towards medical care for dogs with exceptional needs, such as Joker and Kristen. Joker is a beautiful 4 year old cocker in need of special medical care due to seizures that began in late 2007. He is now on regular medication to try to control the frequency and severity of the seizures, but because his seizures are fairly frequent our vets have recommended he have a CT scan to determine if there is an underlying cause for his seizures.
Kristen is an adorable black and white puppy born at the end of June to Babee, a cocker that we took in less than a week before she gave birth. Kristen has an unusual hear murmur that causes our vets to suspect she may have Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a condition in which the connecting blood vessel between the aorta and pulmonary artery necessary for fetal circulation does not properly close after birth. This condition can cause serious health problems and eventually death if left untreated. Therefore our vets have recommended Kristen have an ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis and surgery to correct the condition once she reaches approximately 3 months of age.

Charlotte Cocker Rescue was started in 2001 by Larry and Donna Carpenter after rescuing our cocker Charlie from WV and Sam from Laurel, MD. We were stunned to discover how many homeless cocker spaniels were in the shelters. Thus our rescue began the plight to save homeless shelter cockers in need of rescue. We are in desperate need for volunteers, foster homes, and monetary donations to help us with the enormous vet bills and ongoing expenses of rescue. Our rescue vet is Cabarrus Animal Hospital to whom we have been a loyal client since 1991. They have the best vets on duty there. They have done wonderful vet care for our own animals and rescue kids for many years. All funds raised via our efforts is 100% used strictly for the animals. Our rescue like most private rescue groups is self funded by my husband and me with very little public support. If you would like to help please read the information below or contact us at LarryDonnaCarp@aol.com for further details.
Our adoption process begins with an adoption application. Our board members will review all applications and contact you via email ASAP. We strive to match the best possible homes with the cockers we have in rescue for which meets your family's needs. We do not do trial adoptions for many reasons because it simply is not fair to the new families and to the rescue kids. Our beliefs are that the rescue animals deserve that second chance and it is our responsiblity to know the dogs we are placing. By fostering them first we are able to place them in a loving home with many details to their habits, likes and dislikes, and whether they do well with other pets and/or children. We feel we do a wonderful job in matching our rescue kids to the families adopting them. We hope most people will appreciate all of our efforts. Many families have been very happy with the adoption process. Once an application has been approved and the applicant's references checked, we will make arrangements for you to come meet your potential new family member. We encourage all members of your family to be present during adoption meeting.
Our administrative office is located in Kannapolis, NC. We do not have a public kennel facility available but will be happy to arrange for you to meet our rescue cockers once we have an approved application. We work with our foster homes so any appointments will be made on Saturdays due to our work schedules. We must have an approved application on file before showing any rescued animal - no exceptions. All adoptions are handled on Saturdays, usually early mornings. We hope you understand that our foster families may have other commitments as well so we try to handle all rescue business early mornings on Saturdays. Any other times will be arranged per the adoption coordinator. All adoption fees must be paid either by cash, cashier's check, or money order.
