Who We Are...

The Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark is a non-profit, full service shelter that was established in 1959 by Mr Robert Kleinstuber as a memorial to his wonderful dog Jeff. We provide shelter for all types of creatures and never turn away an animal in need. With our "open door" policy, we receive and care for approximately 3,800 lost and unwanted animals each year.

Adopting a Friend...

Our staff is eager to match animals with appropriate adopters, but strict guidelines are followed to assure the animal is welcomed into a suitable home environment to become a companion for life. An important part of our adoption program is a 24 hour "cooling off period" to prevent impulse adoptions. We like to adopt only to people within a 60 mile radius of Port Jervis, NY.

Adoption Fees...

Cat $25.00
Dog $30.00

Before leaving our facility, all animals MUST be spayed/neutered.

Surgery Fee (if needed)...

Cat (male or female)- $40
Dog (male or female)- $50

All dogs will get a rabies shot, an additional $5, before leaving our facility. All dogs also must have a state license before leaving our facility.

With a modest annual donation a member can help with medical and daily expenses for a homeless dog or cat.

I only visit the shelter once a week to photograph the dogs & cats, and to get updated information.
For more information about one of the pets on our list, to discuss shelter policy, or to make arrangements to adopt a pet you have to call the shelter directly. If you have lost a pet, please call the shelter since stray animals are held for a week before they are put on the internet. Thanks!!
