Who are we?

BARKS (Byram Animal Rescue Kindness Squad) is a non-profit, all volunteer, animal rescue organization founded in 1973 to provide veterinary care, housing and permanent placement of stray and abandoned cats and dogs.

BARKS works in association with the Byram Pound located on Mansfield Drive in Byram Township, N.J. In addition to the pets that can be seen at the Byram Pound, we also have many cats in foster homes and several dogs in local kennels. These pets can be seen by appointment and at our regularly scheduled adoption days.

Fundraising: Our Garage Sales

As you may or may not know, BARKS is funded solely by private, individual donations, adoption fees, fundraisers, and income from semi-annual garage sales held in April and October.

BARKS, which has been helping homeless, injured, abandoned and abused animals since 1973, needs your support to continue our work helping animals.

If you would like to donate garage sale items such as clothing, books, furniture, tools, jewelry, and household goods to us we would be extremely grateful. We accept these items 12 months of the year.

For information on the garage sales or to arrange delivery of donated items, please contact
Lois at (973) 786-5763

Help Support BARKS..

In the Year 2008, BARKS will place over 250 cats and kittens and 100 dogs and puppies in loving homes. In order to continue our rescue efforts we need the support of people like you. Join BARKS for as little as $10 for the year 2008.

Call (973) 300-3185 to ask about fostering a cat or dog in your home on a temporary basis, volunteering at adoption days and at the garage sales, or other volunteer activities.

Make a generous donation to BARKS and help save an animal from a life of loneliness and neglect.

Needed – Dog Walkers
BARKS has several dogs who desperately need daily walking.
These wonderful dogs gain a lot by having time out of the shelter. They burn off energy, gain leash walking experience and enjoy socializing with people. You will also gain a lot by helping to make these dog’s lives better.
Dog walkers must be at least 18 years old and go through a dog walking orientation.
If you are interested in helping, please contact Judy Lofgren at volunteers@barksinc.com.
