ARF has been actively involved in rescuing dogs from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. PLEASE put some ID on your dog's collar in case you are separated from it!!!

Who We Are

ARF is a small group of concerned individuals that provide care and housing for abandoned or unwanted animals in Lafayette Parish and the surrounding area. Space in our shelter facility is limited. We work to rescue abandoned and unwanted animals, obtaining necessary veterinary care and placing them in loving, responsible homes. We DO NOT euthanize adoptable animals. Over the last few years we have placed more than 600 dogs and cats into loving homes.

All animals in our care are current on vaccinations. Dogs are screened for heartworm disease and put on heartworm preventative. .

Most animals we place are already neutered. If the animal is too young for the procedure we will arrange with the new owners to pay for all or a part of the operation. Also, low-income families (under $30,000) qualify for a discount spay/neuter certificate from Lafayette area vets. ALL ANIMALS WE PLACE MUST BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED.

We are recognized by the IRS as a non-profit organization, so any donation you make to help our cause is tax deductible.

Volunteering and Donations

We are in great need of volunteers. In addition to the daily needs of the animals we need extra hands for adoption days, transportation to/from vet visits, and fundraisers. Please consider being a foster home to an abandoned animal. If you are interested in any of these rewarding opportunities, please call 337-332-4756. We will call you back!

Adopting a friend

IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED AS AN ADOPTER, YOU MUST:

~Be 18 years of age or older.

~Have a fenced-in yard.

~Have identification showing your present address.

~Have the knowledge and consent of your landlord.

~Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment, and proper care of a pet.

We have many animals to choose from. All of our pets are health checked by a veterinarian, and are current on all shots. In the event that an adoption does not work out, we will accept any returned animal - no matter how long ago you adopted it from us.

Please visit us on Sundays at PetsMart in Lafayette from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. We are not able to bring all of the animals every Sunday so if you would like to see a specific pet, please contact us ahead of time. If you are unable to see us on Sundays, please call 337-332-4756 and we can arrange for you to personally visit any pet you are interested in adopting. Our web site is www.arfla.org
