MOUNTAIN STATE AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD RESCUE
for Purebred Aussies
and Almost Aussies in the West Virginia area

Mountain State Australian Shepherd Rescue is a small group of volunteers dedicated to helping purebred Australian Shepherds and "Almost Aussies" - those aussie mixes that aren't quite aussie enough to be called pure. Because we are small, we have limited foster space and can not take in very many dogs, but we try to help where we can through listings and referrals.

We we will also curtesy-list aussies and aussie mixes and other herding dog breeds in area shelters and for other local rescue groups. These dogs have not been evaluated by us, or put in our program and can be adopted directly from the contact listing them.

If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, email us at hdennis@wvu.edu for an application. Please note, filling out an application is not a guarantee that you will get the dog – we have a screening process that includes reference checks and a home visit. We also highly encourage prospective adopters to learn more about the Australian Shepherd breed and herding dogs in general. To find out if the aussie is the right breed for you, please click on http://www.lizpalika.com/rightdog.html.

We have no shelter, our dogs are kept in foster homes throughout West Virginia and neighboring states. We are in serious need of foster homes, in all areas along the East Coast. If you are interested in becoming a foster or volunteer, please contact us for information. For South/West WV, contact Tami Grandia aussieposse@citynet.net and for North/East WV contact Hope Stewart, hdennis@wvu.edu.

In addition, we are active with helping the Aussie Rescue and Placement Helpline, Inc. (ARPH) which is a not-for-profit organization that is composed of volunteers who are dedicated to the Australian Shepherd breed. For more information on ARPH and various ways you can help Aussies in need, please see the ARPH page on http://members.aol.com/arphinc/.
