Humane Society of Pocahontas County

Our Pet List

Click here to see our Happy Tails! < < Please check our Pet listings to adopt one of our beautiful kittens! Presently our funds come from donations, applying for grants and fundraisers. No financial support is received from the County Commission and the Society is not connected with the animal control officer, who is under contract to the county. The Humane Society has private, non-profit tax status and is in the process of applying for grants to help with its work. Another way the public can help the Humane Society is to assist with fostering cats and dogs until they are adopted. The long term goal for us is that Pocahontas Co. will one day have its own animal shelter.

Since our society relies heavily on donations,we suggest that if you are interested in donating that you can donate in memory of a person or a pet. Donations can be in memory or in honor of your current, special pet also. Things we can always use for donations are dog food, cat food, blankets, toys for cats and dogs, bleach, worming medicines, flea preventatives, collars, leashes, kitty litter, scoops, paper towels, q-tips, rubbing alcohol, dog and cat treats, colored papers for flyers, brushes and combs for grooming, shampoos, nail clippers, and of course, monetary donations are always welcome. All donations are tax deductible. So please help the needy and homeless!

Who We Are

Since its founding in 1998, the Humane Society of Pocahontas County has been instrumental in spaying and neutering hundreds of pets and strays and arranging adoptions of many animals. Our rescue efforts have saved starving horses, lost and abused animals and most recently helped to shut down a cat breeding operation which was out of control. Although Pocahontas County has no official shelter, we support the efforts of our Humane Officer, and are committed to a future where unwanted animals in the county will be cared for in a modern facility.

Come Visit Us!

Unfortunately, we don't have a facility at this time. We work with the county humane officer who has a private facility. We need foster families and volunteers desperately. We have several foster families in southern Pocahontas Co. area and one foster family in northern Pocahontas Co. area.
Donate a BedWe have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.
