Who We Are
Oshkosh Area Humane Society - Caring for Animals...Serving our Community.
The Oshkosh Area Humane Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to providing Shelter and care to stray, homeless or abandoned cats and dogs in the Oshkosh area. Founded on the principle of compassionate care, the organization is committed to assisting the community by helping place animals in healthy, humane surroundings while providing education and information about responsible pet ownership to all members of the community.
Adopting a friend
After you and your family have decided on the pet you would like to add to your family, we ask that you fill out an adoption application that will include a veterinary reference and 2 non-relative references.
It usually takes 1-2 days for your application to be processed. This also will give you time to be sure you and your family are willing to make a commitment for the pet's lifetime. This commitment could be 20 years.
We take up to 3 applications on each animal. Each application is evaluated separately. The placement of the animal in the most suitable home is our main goal. The first application is not necessarily the application that will be chosen.
Fees for adoption:
CAT ADOPTION PRICING-- Cats and kittens- unaltered are $30 with prepay for surgery required, cats and kittens that have been altered (spayed or neutered) are $50 and for cats three years of age and up the fee is waived. Adopt a buddy for just $10. Every kitten loves a companion.
The adoption fees for unaltered dogs and puppies are $75; the adoption fees for altered puppies, purebred dogs and some small breed dogs are $150, altered mixed breed adult dogs are $100, and dogs with special needs are $35. There is a special program for senior dogs over 5 years old) and a special buddy discount.
PETS FOR SENIORS
There are 2 programs available for senior adopters. One is sponsored by Purina and one is sponsored by the local Ladies Benevolent Society. If the adoption fees pose a financial hardship for you, please ask about these programs.
SECOND CHANCE PROGRAM
If an animal has been at the shelter for a while and has been overlooked by potential adopters, but the staff feels he/she is very adoptable, the animal will be spayed or neutered using Oshkosh Area Humane Society funds. This "2nd chance" greatly increases the animal's adoption possibility and supports our spay/neuter policy.
