Ashland/Bayfield Area Animal Care and Control
Walking the Walk: A HUGE thank you to the staff at Northland Veterinary Services for providing Animal Care and Control with a SECOND spay day this year!! We can't begin to thank you enough for actively helping us in our goal to curb the pet overpopulation problem! 14 female cats were spayed and 5 male cats were neutered on Sept. 17th, and thanks to the clinic staff getting the word out, two of those cats were adopted on the same day! Northland Vet Services also placed 7 cats into loving homes of Animal Care and Control on Sept. 3rd. Thanks so much for your help and generosity!
We want to take a moment to thank Dr. Katie Hom of Bay Area Animal Hospital in Ashland for visiting our facility every week and checking up on our animals. We would also like to thank our foster homes who help us out with everything from litters of kittens to special needs animals.... your help is greatly appreciated!

News
Did you know that every year our humane officer organizes a spay and neuter day to benefit ALL the animals in the system- whether they are at animal control, the shelter or a local rescue? In the past three years this has lead to approximately 400 animals being sterilized at no cost to the overburdened animal welfare system of the north woods!
Who We Are
Our facility is cared for by Callae Hyde, the humane officer of the city of Ashland, and a few very dedicated kennel staff. We are at the facility twice a day (and sometimes more) rain, shine, hell or high water! Unfortunately during these times all of our energy is focused on taking care of the animals that are staying with us, so we ask that anyone interested in adopting a pet please call or email and make an appointment. Our number is (715) 292-2815 and our email is: animalcareWIS@yahoo.com
We take in the stray, abandoned, neglected and abused animals of Ashland County, Bayfield County and Bad River. Given the huge area that we serve, we regret that we do not have the space to take in owner surrenders.
WE ARE VERY RESCUE FRIENDLY. RESCUES, PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU SEE AN ANIMAL YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP!

A little about our facility:
We are always trying to use everything we have to best meet the needs of our animals. We have three veterinary style cage banks to house our adult cats, two handmade playpens for kitty families and kittens, and individual runs for our dogs. The cage banks are easy to sterilize and allow us to monitor each of our adult cats separately and make sure that they are eating, drinking and pooping as they should. Our handmade playpens allow kitty families to stay together and give the kittens extra room to play! Inside, our individual dog runs are separated by cinderblock walls so there is no fence fighting between dogs and the overall stress of being kenneled is reduced.
When an animal comes to our facility there is a 7 day holding period during which time we always hope the owners of the animal will come looking for him or her. Unfortunately, more of than not this is not the case. The animals then have a chance to get adopted through us, or they get transferred to the CHA as room allows. We also work closely with several rescues and foster homes to try and help as many animals as we can!
This website is maintained by volunteers who wanted to help out when they saw what a great job the humane officer and kennel staff were doing. We will be doing our very best to keep the animals on this site as up to date as possible, but unfortunately our photo sessions have to be scheduled around our work schedules. If you want more information on current animals at the facility, would like to help out yourself, or would like to contribute supplies, please email: AnimalCareWIS@yahoo.com
Adopting a friend
Adoptions are by appointment, so please call or email us and we would be happy to set up a time to have you meet our animals!
Why don't we have visiting hours?
Adoptions are approved by the city's humane officer, and her job involves being on call almost 24/7. We can't schedule adoption hours because we never know when our dedicated humane officer will have to go on a call. Did you know that animal "complaint" calls are the number one type of call received by dispatch?
Adoption fees:
All of our animals have been dewormed and given their first- and sometimes their second- distemper combination vaccine. We are also often able to have our male cats that are six months or older neutered. While these services are not required of any temporary housing facility, we are proud to provide our animals with them!
We do not have any set adoption fees, but any adoption donation is greatly appreciated and all adoption donations go straight back to caring for the animals!
All adopted animals must be sterilized within 2 wks of adoption or when they turn six months old.
Come Visit Us!
Call or email to set up an appointment time! We're more than happy to meet you and show you our place!
We always have animals coming in and out on a daily basis so it is hard for us to update our site on a regular basis. If you are looking for something in particular, please don't hesitate to ask us!
