Our Adoptable Pet List

Croator Our Featured Pet...

I need a new family.. I have so much love and affection to give to children and grownups alike. All I have ever wanted is to belong to a family. my shelter friends love me dearly. but it just isn't the same as people of your own. Pssst, don't tell them that - I don't want to hurt their feelings - they are doing their best. My name is Croator and I am an American Staffordshire Terrier. I am 78 lbs and I stand about 22" at the shoulder and I am an athletic boy and a bit of a clown!!!. I am 2 1/2 years old and I am white with brindle patches. I am a spectacularly handsome boy. I need a calm, assertive hand to reinforce the boundaries needed for a happy life with a larger pet. My grin will light up your life. I am looking for a home and family that I can love and protect with all my heart. I have been around children of all ages and I am gentle and patient with even very small children. I am very careful not to knock over the little ones and I will play at their level.

I have lived indoors and I am perfectly house trained (even in a strange home). I can sit, stay, come and lie down and I can learn even more.

I love to play - fetch, tug, chew toys- you name it, I will try it! My favorite pastime is swimming - I love it. I like going for walks, but TV is pretty cool too.

I have a pin in my leg from a old, healed break and, after I am adopted and settled in my new home, the Animal Shelter will have the pin removed by one of our vets at no expense to my new owner.

Neutered and micro-chipped I do not like cats and should be an "only child". I do need a fenced yard.

News-We Need Volunteers

The Jefferson County Animal Shelter is currently seeking volunteers to help with daily chores around the shelter. We currently are especially short on volunteers to help with feeding the cats and cleaning their cages on Tuesdays. We always need volunteers willing to take our dogs for walks and play time in our new enclosed outdoor run. Weekends are also times we need both dog and cat volunteers. Reaching out and touching a shelter animal's life will change yours! Please call the shelter at 385-3292 to get more information on how to become a volunteer today.

Who We Are

JCAS is a county government run facility newly administered by Jefferson County Sheriffs Department. It shelters lost and homeless animals and provides community and educational services including pet adoptions and outreach program.

Adopting a friend

Adoption cost for a cat is $81 and a dog is $94. This includes Spaying or Neutering, Initial shots and worming, Free health exam from a participating veterinarian, a two week guarantee, a two year license, and educational materials for the adopter. JCAS does its best to ensure that we adopt healthy companion animals. We ask potential adopters to fill out an Animal Questionnaire so we may better match animals and families. This reduces the chances that an unsuitable match is made, and hopefully prevents the return of animals to the shelter.

Come Visit Us!

We are located just off of Jacob Miller Road, next to the Solid Waste Landfill. We are open Wednesday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you are interested in one of our animals you may call first to see if it is still available. We can hold the paperwork during your travel time to the shelter.
