Our Featured Pets...

Rufus.

Rufus is a energetic very well trained dog. He love kids and gets along with other dogs. He is housebroken and has been searching for a home for a long time.
He is by far one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet- very playful and goofy- he has very good house manners and walks very nice on a leash. He knows sit and down.

Pamela.

Pam is the best dog ever!!! She is loose in the house and gets along with all 20 of the other foster dogs- however pam cannot live with a kittie. She sits on the couch and watches the world go by. She is completely housetrained and knows sit, stay, and shake. She is a great house dog.

Adopting a friend

IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT ADOPTING A PIT BULL...

* Many pit bulls are extremely social dogs with humans and especially delight in children. However, due to strength and exuberance, in some circumstances they are generally best with older children.

*Hardy, tenacious dogs, pit bulls are moderately active indoors and extremely energetic when outdoors. Be prepared to spend a minimum of 20-30 minutes twice a day engaged in aerobic level activities such as Frisbee tossing, bicycle road-working or agility coursework with your dog. Without suitable exercise, they are more likely to become frustrated which can cause destructive behavior. If you're a couch potato and would still like to adopt a bullies please consider a senior bullie- they have all the same great qualities without as much spunk!!!

*Enthusiastic learners, pits enjoy trick training and many graduate at the head of their obedience classes.

*Dog-to-dog aggression is a serious issue with this breed, one that needs to be addressed. Early socialization is important for puppies of any breed, and it is essential for pit puppies. Because of a few irresponsible owners this breeds future is at risk, for this reason we ask you to not take your pit bull to a dog park. Even if another dog were to start a fight the pit bull will always be blamed. Unless fenced in, all dogs must always be on lead and under the control of a responsible adult.

*As a pit bull owner, you have to be an extremely responsible owner and have pride in your dog and it's breed. However, you are likely to experience breed discrimination. Legislation may prohibit you from living in certain communities. Homeowners insurance may be harder to find.

*However, don't let this discourage you from adopting the dog described by more than one owner as "eager to please, loves to work, and only wants to make us happy" if a pit bull is a good fit for your family.

A few words on the "Pit Bull". These are a very loyal, fun loving, people pleasing breed. They are excellent with children and adore the company of people. Although they are a true fighting breed and can be aggressive with other dogs, they can also live beautifully with other animals, when socialized and supervised properly.
They are affectionate, loveable, comical, and at times quite stubborn. They are an extremely versatile breed who do well in anything they attempt. Pit Bull's truly bond with their owners and aggression towards humans, goes against the true nature of this breed. Cruelty and neglect are the causes for human aggression and the well cared for, well loved Pit Bull, is not a human aggressive dog by nature. A Pit Bull should NEVER be aggressive with human beings.
This is a wonderful breed with a colorful history and is NOT the breed for everyone. Pit Bull's are strong, both mentally and physically and can sometimes be "too much" dog, for those not familiar with the breed. Pit Bulls are best placed with dogs of the opposite sex. This breed is a fighting breed and the potential to fight is ALWAYS there. Anyone thinking of adopting a Pit Bull, should seriously educate themselves about this aspect of the breed.
Pit Bulls make wonderful companions, but need owners who are willing to be responsible in their care and diligent about their dogs safety.
Pit Bulls require constant supervision with other dogs and should never be allowed to run off lead. Please research this breed BEFORE applying to adopt, so you can be sure it is the right breed for you.

A HEART BEAT AT MY FEET...... MY PIT BULL TERRIER.

What Animal Do I Speak Of?
By Patty Letawsky

Their love is like no other,
their heart as pure as gold.
Yet while going on a friendly walk,
they're faced with stares of cold.

They're so very close to human,
in how they act and what they do,
Unless you've known their devoted love,
it's impossible to explain to you.

They are greatly more misunderstood,
than any other breed.
We tend to punish this loyal dog,
Instead of mankind's deeds.

They are always and forever clowns,
with a wish for center stage.
Yet while displaying this sense of humor,
most people disengage.

They, oh, so want to make new friends,
and run and jump and play.
Yet when they happily approach,
most people shy away.

Often I've seen children poke,
or hop on for a ride.
And when I felt they might get mad,
they've only beamed with pride.

I've seen their children yank and pull,
with nary a reaction.
Yet media's not interested,
unless they've put someone in traction.

When other dogs have made the news,
this breed's name they affix.
But when this brave dog saves the day,
they call him "boxer mix".

They love to snuggle up real close,
to give lots of loves and kisses,
Yet they suffer more than any,
from unfair prejudices.

Their tails wag hard and hips twist, too,
more so than other mutts.
So those of us who know the breed,
we call them "wiggle butts".

What animal do I speak of,
Whose love is so unique?
If you've truly known one,
you know of whom I speak.

There is no creature on this Earth
who will ever make you merrier.
The animal I do speak of,
it's the American Pit Bull Terrier
Due to the fact that Prince Georges County, MD have breed specific legislation no adoptions will be made to residents of those areas. Virginia has no breed specific legislation.

In addition, if traveling through Ontario, Canada with a bullies, they can and will seize your dog, they do not care where you are a citizen. Be aware of traveling through areas with BSL.

Please contact your homeowners insurance company regarding breed restrictions also. I know USAA & State Farm do not have breed restrictions.

Please contact us at bullypaws.adoptions@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting a new friend.

We are a small operation and are always in need of blankets, toys, transport crates, etc.. and would be happy to pick up any items you could provide.

Gone but not forgotten.... those who didnt make it out of kill shelters

For the many others that are never even photographed, but just deemed unadoptable because of the way that they look. Breed discrimination is the pits

Could you tell the difference
