Who We Are
WPDR is proud to announce new beginnings for many dogs in need. WPDR does not discriminate against breed, age, gender or any other characteristics (including deafness). All of our dogs are fostered in a home setting, not in kennels. This gives our dogs and puppies a chance to get started in house manners, house breaking and crate training. It also gives our foster homes the chance to properly evaluate each dog to make sure we can place them in the most appropriate homes available to them. We do not accept nor adopt out aggressive dogs, regardless of breed. While our main focus is herding dogs, we offer assistance and extend our services to any dog who has run out of time in the shelter environment, provided we have a foster home available. We also extend our services (when we are able) to other dogs in need of help. We offer our foster homes as they become available on a first come, first serve basis, and while we cannot possibly offer something to every dog, we will strive to help as many as we can.
Adopting a friend
All of our adoptions require references and a careful screening is done to make sure the dog you would like to adopt would fit your lifestyle. While many people may WANT a cattle dog, for instance, the cattle dog may not be suited for your lifestyle. This means that, in a few short weeks, you will be parting ways and the dog will once again be homeless. Adopting a dog is a commitment that is life-long for the dog. Please review and research the breed you are considering prior to adoption to make sure the breed is suited to the care you are able to provide. Come Visit Us!
While we would love to have company, our dogs are in foster homes. These foster homes range from NY to VA and some even further. While our home base, so to speak, is in NY, many of our dogs are fostered elsewhere. Please be aware that part of the adoption process is to visit your potential family member in his foster home. Each listing tells where the dog is being fostered. Even if you cannot travel there, do not hesitate to contact us about a dog you are interested in. There may be another member closer to you who can do a home check and help determine if the choice is the right one!
