Changing Perspectives, Inc. is a portal through which new visions are coming together The bedrock upon which Changing Perspectives, Inc. is being built is solid and yet ever-changing. We have come together with friendships new and those of old to build an organization -- one dedicated to demonstrating the capacity of everyone, even those traditionally considered marginal to society, to give and contribute to the greater good of all. Knowing that all people are intrinsically good, and reminding others who may have forgotten, we can realize an unquestionable truth: helping others helps ourselves. Those 'others' may be two-footed or four-footed. Many of us who are involved in Changing Perspectives originally gathered together because of a deep, long-standing love of animals. From childhood onward, we have rescued numerous stray cats and dogs, retrieved baby birds fallen from nests, nursed wounded adult birds, relocated baby rabbits threatened by snakes, assisted orphaned raccoons, saved turtles in precarious circumstances, and notified veterinarians whenever deer had been hit by cars. While loving all creatures, great and small, our very special bond, however, is our concern for kittens and cats. We have nourished and cherished kittens which have been deliberately thrown out of moving vehicles; we have bottle-fed kittens only days old, kittens whom vets said could never survive. Yet survive and thrive, they did! Working together and separately, we have rescued, rehabilitated and adopted many homeless, abandoned felines. Sometimes it has been one cat at a time, while sometimes it has been colonies of kitties. Like iron shavings to a magnet, people who love cats are drawn to us. One such woman crawled into a sewer to rescue a cat. Defying police authority and armed only with a flashlight, she entered a filthy sewer and ultimately placed a terrified, wet cat into the arms of her grateful owner. These are the kind of people we are. Every human being and all creatures of Earth can feel and respond to genuine kindness and deep compassion. We all can rally resources within ourselves long thought gone. The only necessary ingredient to bring this about is LOVE. To our cause, we bring disparate talents, abilities and backgrounds. We have accomplished writers and editors. Among our group are those who have guided companies, made public policy and educated the public on major issues. One of us is a nationally recognized advocate of criminal justice reform. We have multi-talented artists who paint, draw, and craft. A gifted pre-kindergarten teacher is with us who has blessed many a family demonstrating the belief that 'as the twig is bent, so grows the tree.' Others touch hearts with their kindnesses. In our midst is a veterinarian of outstanding caliber who is beloved in three counties in central Texas. A twenty-one year old college student, who attends school full-time and works full-time, energizes and inspires us by her tireless dedication to animal welfare. We have a man without a home who teaches respect, dignity and integrity to others who live on the streets. Another man, whom we call our 'armchair advisor,' delivers bread for a living and always has cat food on his truck for those in need. One of us, French by heritage, grew up in a Third-World country. She brings a truly unique perspective and a deep appreciation for seeing the world as an integrated web of relationships rather than through the lens of narrow, parochial provincialism. She was a founding member of Animal Trustees of Austin, a wonderful animal rescue group that, to date, is responsible for spaying and neutering over 40,000 cats and dogs, as well as providing a low-cost animal Wellness Clinic, and supplying totally free care to pets of homeless people. As you can see, each of us within Changing Perspectives has a special component that makes 'the whole greater than the sum of its parts.' Our deep-seated social consciousness binds us together. When several of us watched the movie Pay It Forward, a movie about "forwarding kindness" on to others, something was inculcated into our hearts to bear fruit at a later time -- a deep, burning desire to make a difference in society. We do not subscribe to the negativity, the nay-saying, the cynicisms of the modern world. May we uncover and discover ancient truths, truths long-buried, but soon to appear on the horizon of consciousness. We believe that each person is intrinsically good and we truly do believe the world can be changed for the better, one heart at a time! We have witnessed this; we have experienced this; we want to pass on to others what has been given to us.
