Our Featured Pet...

Breezy!
Breezy is an adorable little mixed breed dog who weighs 30 pounds at 6 months old. She loves other dogs of all sizes, big and small. The great thing about Breezy is that she can fit in just about anywhere – she is comfortable playing with a 65 pound collie or a little 15 pound poodle. In fact, at doggie day care where she attends as a foster dog she is the belle of the ball! She loves all the dogs there and they love her right back! Breezy is a wonderful young dog who loves her crate, cherishes her rubber chew toys, enjoys car rides, is housebroken, walks on a leash, and knows a few basic obedience commands including sit. She even knows how to use a doggie door! Breezy is already spayed, fully vaccinated, on heartworm prevention, and she is even micro-chipped. She looks like a tiny-sized German Shepherd, but we know she was born to a beautiful yellow Labrador retriever mom. Her body size is more like you would see in a Whippet (small Greyhound). She is probably a Labrador Retriever/German Shepherd mix, and is on the tiny size because she was probably the runt of a litter of 8. She was rescued from a brickyard in a country setting where she and her mom and all of her littermates were found abandoned. Little Breezy must have struggled to find enough nourishment when she was a little pup, and that is why we think she is on the small side. We think she will probably only be around 35 pounds when fully grown, so if you are looking for a great big dog in a little tiny package then Breezy may be the dog for you! Our little Breezy is somewhat cautious in new settings and around people she hasn't met before that make sudden moves or loud noises. That is why we want to find a home for Breezy that has no children, and where her new parents will be kind, understanding, loving and nurturing as she is introduced to all that life has to offer. She loves her caregivers very much, and loves to snuggle and give doggie kisses. She loves her belly rubbed especially! She really likes to play with her tennis ball, and will bring it back every time if you throw it for her. If you are looking for a quiet, yet fun little dog who loves her crate and will wait patiently for you to come home from work and go for a walk at the end of a busy day - then look no further. Breezy may be the gal for you! Send an e-mail to lindawilliams564@yahoo.com to request an application, or call 817/656-2800 today! Vet reference required, and prior experience with a young, sensitive dog preferred.

Who We Are

Fireplug Rescue is a limited rescue effort that works almost exclusively with dogs - so we named ourselves Fireplug Rescue. We believe that given the right opportunity, most dogs can lead safe and happy lives that will benefit the lives of their owners. It is also believed that birth control in the pet population by euthanasia must be stopped, and that the only way to do this is to spay and neuter pets. Therefore, all pets offered for adoption through Fireplug Rescue are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. The only exception is when the current health condition of the pet causes the delay of spaying and neutering surgery. In these rare cases, the adopter will sign a spaying and neutering agreement prior to adoption.

Stray Dogs, Owner Surrendered Dogs and Courtesy Listings

Fireplug Rescue does not accept found (stray) pets and those who are being given up by their owners. We are no longer able to list pets that are available for adoption through other groups and individuals, due to liability issues and changes in the laws regarding owned dogs. We only list pets that are in our direct care and control. However, please refer to www.metroporthumanesociety.org if you do not find what you are looking for on our web page.

Adopting a friend

All pets are offered for adoption through an application process. The adoption fee ranges from $85 - $200 for dogs and includes basic medical medical care listed below. Some of our animals receive much more care than others, because of their medical conditions when they come into our program. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies includes these basic services: spaying/neutering, vet visit before adoption, worming, heartworm testing (for dogs over 6 months old), application of heartworm and flea preventative medicine, collar, leash, rescue ID tag, and all vaccinations including distemper, parvo, parainfluenza, bordetella and rabies. Fireplug Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any pet for any reason. Because Fireplug Rescue pets are in private homes and have been examined by a vet prior to adoption, we usually have a pretty good idea about the health and overall condition of the pet. We will do our best to communicate our understanding about the pet's health and condition prior to adoption.

Let Us Come Visit You

Our pets are living in private homes, not shelters. Because of this, we can often bring the pet to you for the first meeting. Home visits allow us to see the pet interact in the new environment and meet the other pets in the family. We can all get a better idea how the pet might accept the new setting.
