DFW Association for Large Breed Dog Rescue
Who We Are
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping large and giant breed dogs and their owners in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. We provide comprehensive services from getting dogs in need from kill shelters to helping owners train and manage them. The advantage to adopting from us is that all of our foster parents are experienced with large dogs and not only provide an interim loving home for them, but also can assist you with day-to-day life with your new best friend.
If you would like to adopt, see our pet list here. You can also e-mail us here.
You may also contact us by phone. If we're not in, please leave a message and we'll get back to you within one business day.
We have no physical shelter as of right now - all of our dogs are being fostered in private homes throughout the Metroplex. Due to this fact, we can only meet by appointment only, though we are pretty flexible with times.
Adopting a friend
Our adoption process begins with an application. Once we receive your application, one of our volunteers will be contacting you for an initial interview. At this point we will make reference calls. If things go well with the interview and your references are acceptable, from there we will arrange a time for you to meet the dog.
Once the meeting has taken place, we will notify you of the status of your application and make final preparations for delivery of the dog. Random home checks may also be made. We are very serious and diligent about the placement of these dogs - Rotties are not for everyone. They are a truly wonderful breed if properly trained and socialized, but they require a skilled dog owner. In the wrong hands, a large dog can be a menace. PLEASE NOTE: We reserve the right to refuse adoption of any dog to any party we do not feel provides an acceptable home or environment. Dogs are not adopted out on a first come, first serve basis. Finally, upon delivery of the dog, the adoption agreement is signed. After adoption, we are always available to provide assistance to the new owner(s) of their wonderful dog.
Our adoption fee varies depending on the dog and its specific circumstances, but can range from $100 to $350. This includes vaccinations (rabies, distemper, coronavirus, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and adenovirus type 2), spay/neuter, and general health examination including heartworm test. All of our dogs are on heartworm preventative. Our foster parents are also skilled large breed dog owners, and some animals may have basic obedience training as well, but that goes on a dog-by-dog basis.
As a general rule, we DO NOT adopt most dogs to homes with small children (under 12).
