Recycled Poms and Schipperkes

Our Pet List

Pet of the Month

My name is Panda

Panda is a five-year-old Parti-Pom that we picked up at a local shelter. He appeared perfect in health and seemed like a healthy little boy full of energy and life... until one evening, he had a grand-mal seizure.

He was rushed to the emergency room and the doctors examined him and ran lots of tests to find out why he had this seizure. The seizures continued almost hourly.

The doctors put Panda on medicine to stop the seizures but that just made him look and act like he was in a drunken stupor. Finally after several months, we were able lower the dosage and he hasn't had a seizure in 5 months! Though this sounds like great news, the sad fact remains that something caused those seizures.

After some very expensive testing, it was discovered that Panda has Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis (GME). GME is an inflammatory disease that acts in many ways like a brain tumor.

Panda has developed many other symptoms such as neck pain, drunken gait, walking in circles, listlessness, dry eye, tilted head, facial abnormalities, and weakness in his hind legs. This does not leave out much in the way of neurologic symptoms but he could also go blind.

We know it sounds like he should be helped across the Rainbow Bridge, but he acts so happy and he still loves to go for walks and get treats. We love him so much and his eyes would tell us if he was ready to go.

Since we are a non-profit "volunteer only" organization, surviving only on donations, we are asking you to help us in any way you can to cover Panda's medical care. His vet bill has now exceeded well over $3,000.

~~~~~~~
It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.
"Making a difference since 1998"
Our mission is to locate, foster, vet, and place dogs in forever loving homes. We rescue purebred dogs previously used as breeders in Puppy Mills, dogs surrendered by their owners, lost and abandoned dogs on death row at local shelters and a few dogs found roaming the streets. We house, feed, rehabilitate, socialize, seek medical attention for, spay or neuter each dog rescued, but mostly, we give them love.
Please join our cause! We can't do it alone.
ATTENTION:
Our volunteers give freely of their time, money, and affection to save these pommies. Please keep in mind that they are ALL volunteers - no one gets paid, and we all have full-time jobs, families, and lives too.
Please be patient if we cannot answer you immediately - we do strive to respond within 48 hours to all inquiries.
WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH FOSTER HOMES!
We currently have little pommies boarded at the vet clinic!! This cost us $16 a day PER Pom!! That's money that could be used to pay for vetting expenses.
Will you FOSTER a rescued pom or schip?
If you could open your home to a temporary doggie, please e-mail Revbitting@aol.com or cfults@remecmmic.com.
WE PAY for vet expenses and provide heartworm preventative. YOU are responsible for food, water and LOVE.
Fostering can be a real blessing. Please consider helping out the pommies or schips in need by fostering one today!
We also accept quality dog food, healthy treats (like BULLY STICKS!) belly bands for boy dogs, exercise pens, pee pads, collars, leashes, and Dog shampoo!
(e-mail: cfults@remecmmic.com or Revbitting@aol.com to donate any of the above items.)
If you want to mail a donation to help save the pommies, please e-mail cfults@remecmmic.com or Revbitting@aol.com and we will provide you with a mailing address.
Who We Are
We are a LAST RESORT rescue group that seeks to save Pomeranians and Schipperkes who are in danger of being euthanized at shelters in the area. We also take in owner surrenders when space is available.
Adopting a friend
Adopting one of our dogs requires that you fill out an adoption application, have your references checked, and let us visit your home.
The required minimum adoption donation is $250. That amount covers the spay/neuter, annual vaccinations, heartworm testing, and one month of heart worm preventative.
We spend about $300.00 just to treat the pommies that are heartworm positive. We have invested more than $1000.00 in several of our pommies--treating them and kenneling them. Kenneling cost $16 a day per dog. We need foster homes!
ADOPTION APPLICATION
The following is a pre-adoption application that all of our potential adopters must complete.
Select all of the application below, copy and paste it into Notepad, MSWord, or directly into a your email response. Complete all information requested.
