Homes with fenced yards are given preference to those without (all other things being equal). Please understand that this is a volunteer effort and we all work full time in addition to doing rescue. Any help in speeding up the adoption process is appreciated. We receive an average of over 2000 HITS A DAY and many emails! We will get back to you as soon as possible. **NOTE** We do NOT encourage giving pets as GIFTS. However, you may pay the adoption fee as a 'gift' for your special someone, but we will require an adoption application to be completed by the adopter (recipient of your 'gift'). Our dogs come to us from various sources including shelters. We do not always know the full history of the dog, some have come from abusive or neglectful situations. We will share as much information on the dogs as we can with 'approved prospective homes'. Our dogs are in our foster homes, primarily in the Hixson (Chattanooga suburb) TN area, as well as many other states in the Southeast. Kayla is a spunky, adorable girl who weighs just a bit over 7 pounds. Her tail is always waggin' & her eyes are bright, looking for some affection or kindness. Kayla has heartworms (strong positive) and a heart murmur. As if that was not enough, she has bilateral fistulas (opening from the mouth into the sinus cavities from where she has lost teeth) and badly needs a dental to get the remaining rotten teeth out so as to stop any mouth infection. Kayla is 10 years young, but as Maltese lovers know, that is not a senior age for these adorable long lived creatures. Kayla is on antibiotics as a precursor to the heartworm treatment. We know this girl has been passed around and ended up with SCMR because her treatment (and Cassie's, her daughter -see the Petfinder posting for Cassie) will be very expensive. Adopting any animal takes a lot of commitment. We require an application, reference check and home visit. Adoption donations are based on the age of the animal and medical expenses incurred. Each dog has had all vaccinations, been dewormed, heartworm tested (and treated if necessary), dental (if needed), spay/neuter, and any other medical attention he/she needs. The adoption fee helps recover a PORTION of the money spent on each rescued animal. We are committed to try to find the best home possible for each of our little ones so that they don't end up in a similar situation down the road. Out of state adoptions are possible; however, the new owner is required to help with the transportation of the dog, as we will not ship them. Additionally all dogs requiring transportation must have a crate or seatbelt harness (cost to be borne by the adoptive family).
