Please help us to continue to keep our euthanasia rate extremely low; currently our euthanasia rate is at 8.89% for healthy/adoptable animals. We desperately need monetary donations so we can replenish our spay/neuter account. This will enable us to offer "Free Adoptions” once again. By way of adoptions & rescues we are able to place our animals into suitable homes while keeping healthy adoptable animals from being euthanized. Please help our animals!

Please send any donations to the shelter :

You know who you are and we appreciate all your hard work and love you give the pups!

We despertaly need volunteers that have a truck with a hitch that can help transport the animals to Petsmart on Saturdays, if anyone can help please contact the shelter at 423-664-0271 or czagona01@comcast.net.

RABIES & REGISTRATION

East Ridge Residents all dogs & cats must have a current rabies vaccination (city ordinance #10-206 Inoculation Required) and city registration tag (city ordinance #10-201) Registration of Animals

All pets (dogs & cats) over the age of 3 months must be vaccinated against rabies in the state of Tennessee. All pets (dogs & cats) within the City limits of East Ridge (37412) must be registered with East Ridge Animal Services.

City registration tags are $5.00 if the pet is spayed/neutered and $25.00 if the pet is not spayed/neutered.

All residents that have not utilized one of the several rabies clinics during the month of April and for some reason we have to visit your home and find an unvaccinated & unregistered pet you will only have 72 hrs to have such pet vaccinated & registered, failure to comply will lead to a citation to court for failure to follow the State of Tennessee Vaccination law & City of East Ridge Registration ordinance.

Be a good pet owner, have your pets vaccinated against rabies and registered. Registering your pet is the best form of ID that you can put on tour pet next to micro chipping. With your registration we can contact you any time of the day or night in the event your pet is ever injured or found stray by a citizen, while it is harder to contact the owner of a pet using the rabies tag information (during regular business hours).

Proper ID on your pet will insure that your lost or injured pet will always be reunited with you!

****Ask about our Guardian Angel Program****

The Guardian Angel Program enables you to help animals in our shelter by donating funds towards their adoption fee; you choose the animal you wish to help.

Many worthy families that would like to adopt but just can't afford the adoption fee can adopt an animal that has a Guardian Angel. So far we have had 17 animals adopted through this program.

Contact the shelter at 423-664-0271 or czagona01@comcast.net to find out more details.

Some people just want to help the animals in shelters and just don't know how to go about it, this is one way you can DIRECTLY affect the happy outcome of one of the pets at our shelter.

He did say that Daisy is great with children and is housetrained.

I (Jonathan) found Marshall wandering alone in Camp Jordan Park back in August of last year. He was a little shy at first, but I quickly realized he was a really sweet guy. He stayed at the shelter for a while, but when space got tight, I knew I had to bring him home to stay with us until we could find him a new forever home. Marshall is housebroken, loves other dogs, loves cats, and is ok with kids, but he should be supervised around kids at first. Sara and I love Marshall, but we live in a tiny apartment with 3 other dogs, 4 cats, and a rat, and he doesn't get the attention he desreves because with Sara being a vet and me being a humane officer, we are gone most of the time helping other animlas. This guy could make some lucky human a truly great companion! Marshall has had DHLPP & Bordetella on 8/11/2007. Please contact the shelter if interested in Marshall.

Our Adoptable Pet List

2008 News

Our goal is to keep our shelters euthanasia rate extremely low. "NO" adoptable animals have been euthanized for space! And our year to date percentage for adoptable animals in 2008 is 0%.

This is because of our high adoption rate, owner reclaimed animals and rescues. We have an extensive rescue network that has helped us in saving countless animals lives.

We are having a high rate of owner surrenders at the shelter. Many are from the City limits of Chattanooga and NW Georgia.

We are a very small shelter with extremely limited space. We are unable to accept animals from other areas; proof of residence will have to be given when surrendering any animal.

Please do not have a friend from East Ridge surrender your animal as theirs. We do check up on all suspicious surrenders. And do not surrender your animal to us as a stray, that is just wrong and we can tell if you are the owner.

We have the reputation of finding our animals new homes or getting them into rescue, but it's not our responsibilty to find "YOUR" animal a new home, we are the last RESORT.

We have only ONE main cat rescuer and only ONE dog volunteer that brings the dogs to Petsmart to increase their chances fo finding new homes. We would like to thank our other couple that helps with the dogs every other week with getting the dogs to Petsmart.

So, you can do the math on your own, our resources are extremely limited and so is our kennel and cat cage space.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO FIND YOUR ANIMAL A NEW HOME, REMEMBER YOUR PET IS A FAMILY MEMBER, NOT A THROW A-WAY OR RECYCLABLE ITEM THAT CAN JUST BE THROWN AWAY WHEN YOU ARE TIRED OF IT. YOUR ANIMAL IS A LIVING BREATHING, CARING CREATURE THAT DESERVES BETTER! THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU SURRENDER YOUR FAMILY MEMBER, THE CHOICE YOU MAKE WILL ALWAYS STAY WITH YOU!

Please do not have a friend that lives in East Ridge surrender your animal, this is not fair to the animals from East Ridge.

If you live outside of East Ridge and need to surrender an animal we can provide rescue contacts but we can not take your animal.

Please remember WE are NOT a RESCUE group but an ANIMAL CONTROL FACILITY. We can not guarantee that your surrendered animal will find a new loving home.

Thanks to All Our friends

We would like to thank all the rescue groups for the help in cross posting our animals, to date we have had several rescue groups take animals from the shelter. Without these groups help our animals would not of found the help they needed in finding a new loving home. Please donate to your local rescue groups; this will enable them to continue the hard work they do for the animals.

We would also like to thank the Best Friends Network for their members help in finding rescues and donations for our shelter, and we would also like to thank C.A.R.E for rescuing many kitties and pups and the Pet Placement Center for rescue help and all the numerous rescues that have helped.

Donations

We are in need of blankets for our furry friends, We could also use DRY DOG (Dog Chow) & PUPPY FOOD (Puppy Chow), KITTEN FOOD, CAT LITTER (Tidy Cat), CARRIERS/CRATES. Toys would be great for everyone, but please washable toys only (hard rubber) for the dogs. We don't want them ingesting any of the tear up kind of toys like stuffed animals and such. We will accept any donation. Nothing goes to waste. If you would like to just come and visit the animals, that would be AWESOME! The doggies need walks and quality time spent one on one with caring individuals. We encourage the citizens of East Ridge and people everywhere to visit the shelter and just spend time with the animals. They desperately need the affection and exercise.

If you would like to MAKE dog beds for our dogs, check out this link: http://www.columbusdogconnection.com/elevated_dog_beds.htm

We do recommend using heavy weight vinyl material for the beds. 40 oz per square yard weight is what the brand/company Kuranda uses for their beds. It is highly unlikely that the doggies will be able to tear or chew this material. Another volunteer made some beds using canvas material and they were all but destroyed completely... So, canvas would not be a lasting choice...Since these beds take a good little bit of time to make, it would be in ones best interest to have them last- not to mention the doggies best interest. :-)

You can also see our adoptable pets in Critter magazine, we also list our animals on 1-800-save-a-pet.com, Pets 911, and some of our animals can be seen on KZ-106 Kelly McCoys Pet Project page. We do post our animals on several web sites to get the animals more exposure; it has been working great for us.
