Our Featured Pet...
All of our animals are special - from A-Z we cannot choose just one to feature!
West TN is in a crisis situation. Years of ignoring the animal issues are now leading to the deaths of thousands of unwanted companion animals across West TN. Puppies that were dumped and managed to survive, now roam feral and dangerous across our counties and it continues without end. Do not dump your unwanted pet - it's life will not be better -no one will take it in. Be responsible and take it to the vet and have it humanely euthanized. COH and every other rescue and HS's in West TN and across the south are over extended. COH can no longer take in ANY animal. If you will work with us - we will work with you but you must be willing to help also, by fostering your own animal or that which has been dumped on you while we try to save its life.
News
Beginning in June, we will be starting our TNR Program for feral cats. We will be trapping, spaying/neutering feral cats and then releasing them back to where they were. For more information or if interested in this program please call COH. Please visit our yahoo group for Gibson Co. TN. residents and their pets. It is Gibson Co. TN. Animal Rescue List (gibsoncoh). (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gibsoncoh/?yguid=255151544) This list will allow a person to give information about their own pet and find them homes themselves or for those looking to find a forever pet. It will also be for those who have had a dog(s) or puppy(s) abandoned on them to look for help. Lost or found animals may be listed and discussion comment allowed. There will be NO dogs/puppies for SALE!! They must be rescues OR pets that can no longer stay with their owners. We will continue putting our efforts into finding rescues and homes for dogs and puppies that are currently in the Humboldt Animal Shelter. We will be getting photos of these animals, posting them and hoping we can find rescues and homes for them within their five (5) day time limit. We recognise that this is a short period of time and we will not save many, the problems of over population and limited space does not leave us many options. We will be intvesting time in helping our county with the issues they face in improving our animal shelter facility and caring for the dogs while they are there. We will be happy to ASSIST you with placement for a dog or litter - my best advise is to spay or neuter your animal! It is much cheaper than dealing with unwanted puppies every six months and the heartbreak of knowing they will be put to sleep at the shelter. This county is in a crisis situation with pet overpopulation and there are not enough homes for all of them. Spaying AND neutering your pet SAVES LIVES! Do not allow even one litter!
Who We Are
We are a small but growing rescue whose goal is to find the "throw aways", the animals dumped because their owners did not want them any longer for one reason or another, the litters that have been tossed into the fields because an irresponsible owner did not spay/neuter their pet and were unable or unwilling to take the time to find them homes. We hope to change this by saving what we can, knowing that we cannot save them all and educating as many people as possible. We rarely take someone's pet. We are limited in space but hope to grow! We are working on ways to introduce a "Responsible Pet Ownership" program into the community and into the school system. We hope to find a way to bring a low cost spay/neuter program here also. We exist from the few donations our rural area provides and out of our own pockets.
Adopting a friend
You must fill out an application and if approved we will require you to sign a contract although most dogs are spayed/neuterd before leaving COH you must agree to have the animal spayed/neutered if it is not already altered (i.e. a pup that is too young). Most of our dogs are mixed breeds that have been abandoned, we have very limited information available on their parentage or their history. If you are interested in adopting, please give us a call and we can explain more about our adoption policies and arrange getting an adoption application to you. Our adoption fees vary - depending upon the dog. These fees rarely cover the medical costs we have incurred. We do have a way of transporting animals to the North Eastern part of the US as well as a Florida route and have adopted many animals into the Ottawa Canada area, contact me for more information. Other areas may, in most cases, be expected to drive and pick up your new family member or fly them to you.
***Animals will not be vaccinated or altered as long as they remain in the pound with the possiblity of being eutanized, when an adoptor is found we will help with vetting, by taking the animal to our vet for the new adopter or rescue. We cannot afford to vet all of these animals and ask for your understanding.********* We post dogs and cats for residents and vet clinics in Gisbon Co. TN who need to rehome their pet. We do not take responsibility for these animals but we will assist getting an animal to you, please make certain you check these animals out - ask questions of the owner or caretaker and a visit if possible*******
