The "Scoop" on Cats Are Us

Cats Are Us is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit organization founded in December 1997. We are an all-volunteer rescue and adoption agency located in Clarksville, Tenn., about 50 miles NW of Nashville near Fort Campbell, KY. We do not euthanize healthy animals and will give them a safe, caring home until they are adopted.

Since our inception, we have rescued thousands of animals. While we specialize in cats, we have accommodations for several dogs. We currently care for approximately 150 cats and 10 dogs. We rely solely on donations and volunteers to keep our animals happy and healthy. Your donations are tax-deductible and very much needed and appreciated. Donations can be mailed to us at 119 Providence Blvd., Clarksville, TN 37042 or dropped off during business hours which are 10 a.m. to 12 noon Monday through Saturday.

Adopting a New Best Friend

Adoptions fees are $75 for male cats, $85 female cats and $100 for a cat of either sex that is declawed. The fee for both male and female dogs is $85.

The adoption fee for all animals includes: spaying and neutering, deworming and standard vaccinations appropriate to their age. All cats available for adoption are tested and negative for FeLuk and FIV. Dogs are tested and negative for heartworm. Those adopting will also recieve pet supplies and coupons (varies as supplies last)

Animal visiting and adoption hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and at other times by appointment. We have many more cats of every conceivable age, color and size than are shown here on petfinder, so visit us if you want to see them all! Call to find out more about us or a specific pet at 931-503-0053 or email CatsAreUsTn@aol.com.

An adoption application and adoption agreement must be completed and signed, which requires that the animal be returned to Cats Are Us if at any time or for any reason you can no longer care for the animal. Those interested in adoption must come to our facility for a pet; we do not ship animals out of the area. Filling out an application DOES NOT guarantee a particular pet, as we sometimes get many applications for the same animal. We will make the decision based on which home we feel is the best match and also the location of the adopter, as we prefer local adoptions in case a match doesn't work out, as we require the pet be returned to us if that happens.

You may also visit some of our cats at PetsMart on Wilma Rudolph Blvd., where adoption applications are available. If you find a friend at PetsMart, bring your completed application to our office during business hours to finalize the process.

If you'd like an application to fill out at home to save time when visiting us, please email Cats AreUsTn@aol.com to have one emailed to you.

Things We Need

Cat litter is something we always need, as well as cat and kitten food, both dry and canned. We always have a need for cleaning supplies, especially bleach, paper towels and heavy-duty large trash bags. We also appreciate donations of cat toys, treats, dog food, towels, blankets and bedding.

Our biggest expense is our veterinary bills. Monetary donations can be sent to us at 119 Providence Blvd., Clarksville, TN 37042. If you'd like to donate directly to one of the veterinary clinics we use, please call us at (931) 503-0053 or email CatsAreUsTn@aol.com for the names and addresses.

Easy Ways to Help!

A few hours a week or a few hours a month of your time makes a big difference to the well being of our animals. We are especially in need of helpers on weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon. You can help tidy up or help to play with and socialize our many wonderful pets. We also need people who can help transport pets to and from their veterinary appointments. If you can?t help at the shelter, you can help from home; organize and throw a fun fundraiser, make posters, give presentations to community organizations and clubs. We welcome your ideas and expertise!

PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER!

Every Three Seconds, a companion animal is euthanized in shelters across America. Spaying and neutering does not make your animal lazy or fat, and surely does not harm the animal. In fact, it helps reduce your pet's chances of certain cancers and other diseases. Statistics from the Humane Society of the United States:

Number of cats and dogs entering shelters each year: 6?8 million (HSUS estimate)

Number of cats and dogs euthanized by shelters each year: 3?4 million (HSUS estimate)

Percentage of dogs in shelters who are purebred: 25% (HSUS estimate)
