MEET "MONTE"...

Monte came into H.E.A.R. almost 6 months ago, he was extremely underweight and had favored his right rear hip from either being hit by a car or someone had hit him with a bat. He was also very fearful of humans and defensive. Once he got here we just gave him time to come around, I would let him play with our very friendly dogs who loved to be sociable and also liked people and over time Monte's leg began to heal and he came around and started to play again. I also introduced him to the puppies and he was very gentle with them. Monte has proven to be a wonderful dog who's personality has finally come out and he can be himself who loves to be around other animals and people. If Monte would of been turned over to the Pound or the Humane Society of Nashville they would of NOT spent the time he needed to come around. But, at H.E.A.R. he did get that time and I now feel he will make a wonderful family pet when he finds his new forever home.

Monte was lucky, because he got the chance to come to H.E.A.R. and heal his wounds. We have to turn away many dogs who need help just like Monte, but with our limited funds we can only take in so many.

That's why it's so Important that you keep giving what you can to help the Animals at H.E.A.R.
So We can Help more Monte's

Theres NOT many places a Dog who isn't Pretty or has been Abused can go.

They need time to heal their wounds so they can become loving Family Pets.

Running One of the Only True NO-Kill Rescues in Nashville is not Cheap.

It's an easy out, to go ahead and just put them to sleep.
It's Dedication, to care for them and love them until their forever home is found.

H.E.A.R. is also a Sanctuary for those that will never leave.
Some are Old or on Medication, while others have been
so Abused they will never truly trust humans again.

This is a Sad Reality that most people only want the cute friendly ball chasing
well mannered perfect dogs. Not many want those that truly need help.

That's why H.E.A.R. needs to be here. To help Dogs like "Monte"...
Those that have NO other place to go, need H.E.A.R...

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO
MAKE A DONATION TO H.E.A.R.

Before - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - After

The Dogs in This Area Now Have Coverage from Snow, Heat and Rain

This Awning Cost about $150.00 with materials. Labor was "FREE".
We need to build 5 more. Can you HELP?

AS WE FINISHED THE FRONT KENNEL AWNING IT WAS ON TO
THE WALK WAY TO THE OUTSIDE KENNELS IN THE BACK

Here is what it looks like before we started to build the walk-way.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Now we have an entry way into our Front Office and framed out the walk-way deck to the back...
I will add more photos once the top deck boards are laid down and finished...

The First Half of the Walk Way to the Back Kennels is Finished...

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

It was time to move on to the Observation Deck for the Dogs that is in front of the Rescue.
(Dogs Love to Be in High Places - Even if it's only 3ft. off the Ground)
When completed it will have railing around the front and a stairway to the Walk Way Deck.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Photobucket Photobucket

AS YOU CAN SEE,
THE STAIRS ARE BUILT, WHICH COMPLETES THIS PHASE IN FRONT OF THE RESCUE.
NEXT WILL BE THE RAILING AROUND THE DECKS
BUT, WE HAVE RUN OUT OF MATERIAL, TO FINISH THE JOB.

We will need 2" & 3" inch / 21 degree Galvanized Nails for our Nail Gun to
Build the Railing and the Shadow Box Fence around the Front.

Photobucket Photobucket

Sorry to take so long in getting the next photos done, but without nails for our nail gun
All the 2x2 posts had to be installed with screws and ended up taking about 3 days to complete this part.
I will be building the railing for the steps next and then up the walk-way to the front yard area.

If you would like to help out, you could purchase H.E.A.R. a Gift Card through
Home Depot for about $150.00 and we can get this Job done.

It will give us another secure yard that will be fenced in for our
Senior Dogs and Puppies to play in.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

April 29, 2008 - We received a Gift Card to Home Depot from Vicky Green & Amy Schmidlein for $200.00 to purchase the Nails and other Materials we needed to start completing the Front Deck Area and Observation Deck.

As you can see, the project is coming along and should be finished by this weekend. I will finish putting up the Rest of the 2x2 picket posts and then stain the new pieces of wood to match the rest of the Decking. I will then build the gate on the Left side of the Mobile Home which is our storage building. This will then totally enclose the front area, and will allow more of our Dogs to enjoy the outside and have their own play area.

Photobucket

The Main fencing area is now Complete, I still have to stain the new wood and put the metal roof on over the Awning that was built to secure the Gate. But as you can see it's pretty much complete and the dogs and puppies love it. They are running all over and having a blast in their new play yard.

This Entire Project Ran about $200.00 in Materials, Labor was "FREE"...

It was now time to move to the back and finish up a divider fence in the main back yard play area. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough 8ft. Pickets to do the job and had to switch to 6ft. Pickets and get creative by designing a fence with the materials I had. As you can see they are piled up in the yard and each used board had to be cleaned and all nails and screws pulled out, but as you can see the project is coming along. I also ran out of 2" nails that were used to put up the pickets and now have to screw each one in place. This Project should be done in the next few days.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Once I complete it, I will post pictures of the new fence and play yard for some of our dogs.

This is what can be DONE with your Donations...

Please keep giving so we can purchase more Materials to finish more Jobs.

Thank you to Those that have Given to Help Keep this Rescue Going...

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT OPENING YOUR HOME
AND BECOMING A FOSTER PARENT?

H.E.A.R. is always looking for qualified Foster Homes to help out. You need to be a home owner with a secure fenced in back yard. We also ask that you allow your pets inside and be part of the Family. You must also live with in a 30 mile radius of this Rescue so we can easily set up appointments for possible Adoptions. Fostering is a wonderful way to help out and reduce over crowding. If you would like to become a Foster Parent, send us an email as to what sort of home you have available, other pets or kids and a little bit about you and your family and what sort of life style you live. We will then contact you to arrange a home check and talk about what sort of dog would best fit your Family and can even supply you with dog food to care for them.

As a bonus for helping out as a Foster Home and after 90 days you decide to Adopt the Dog your Fostering. Your adoption fee will be waived as an appreciation for helping us out and saving a life. Our goal is to find the best homes possible and if your happy with the Dog and the Dog is happy with you. Then we would go ahead and let the Adoption go through.

ADOPTION QUALIFICATIONS:

You need to be a Home Owner with a secure fenced in back yard. Home Inspections are Required by either this Rescue or a Rescue near your location who can do the Inspection to be considered for adoption to make sure your fence is high enough and secure enough for the dog your interested in adopting with no escape areas. All Pets must reside INSIDE your home and be allowed to be part of the family. If your looking for a dog to be a permanent outside fixture to your home, this is not the Rescue you should adopt from. Are dogs that we rescue are retrained to be pets that we spend a lot of time with and they love to be with people. To take a dog that has been trained this way and keep it outside will make them depressed and not a happy dog. We strive to find the perfect family for each of our dogs where they will be treated like part of the family and included in most all family functions.

We also require you to Fill Out an Adoption Application Form with Vet References which is checked out before considering the adoption.

ADOPTION FEE'S $100.00

The Adoption fee covers spaying or neutering, updated shots and deworming of the dog before adoption...

VIEWING OF ANY DOG AT THE RESCUE:

If you see a dog you would like to adopt, please email me and let me know what sort of forever home you have to offer. Where you live. How big your fenced in yard is (Pictures are Helpful). How tall is your fence and other pets you may have. Tell us about previous pets and how they were part of your family and what happened to them. Go ahead and brag, it's a good selling point. (If you write us a letter and say in two lines you want to Adopt So and So and have a fenced in yard will NOT get you an immediate response). We want to know all about you. Take the time to write a letter as to why you want a pet in your family, how they will be treated, and how much joy your previous pets made in your life. Our job is to find these dogs the best home possible. If all checks out, we can then set up a time for you to come by and meet the dog your interested in Adopting. If after you come by and decide you want to Adopt that dog, we would then set up a time to come out and do a home check to verify your fenced in yard, height, and make sure it's secure and see where the dog will eat and sleep at night.

HOW MUCH IS A DOG'S LIFE WORTH?

When we brake all the costs down to how many dogs are here, it comes out to around $80.00 to a $100 a month per dog to feed, water, keep a roof over their head, Vet Care, spay or neuter, update all their shots, rabies certificate and prepare them for adoption.

We figure it costs around $150 to get a dog ready for adoption, plus how many months they are here before they got adopted. The average dog is here 3 to 6 months so you can figure we are into each dog around $500 before it gets adopted out and if you take our current adoption fee of $100.00 we lose money every time we do an adoption.

On the Average we only do 2-4 adoptions each month. So you can see, the adoption fee we collect doesn't even come close to covering all our normal expenses each month (which run around $2,500 a month) to keep these doors open. It's not cheap to save a Dogs Life. So to make up for this, we have to ask for Donations to help cover our Loses each Month.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO THAT IS DONATED TO HAPPY ENDINGS ANIMAL RESCUE

Money received first goes to paying all the Bills to keep this Rescue open like the Mortgage, Utilities, Supplies, Vet Care and so much more. Any funds left over for the month are used on finishing this place with building decks for the dogs to sit on, awnings so the dogs have shaded areas to lay under, plus we make our own cots or beds for the dogs to sleep on.

We also use the Donations to finish the fencing around the Rescue, finish up the inside areas to give each dog their own sleeping quarters, painting and so much more. It also goes to Vet care when a dog needs Medical Attention or we have to get them Spayed or Neutered. We are an all Volunteer Rescue and no one collects a pay check. This Rescue is about 80% done, please help us finish with your Contributions, so we can continue to do what we have done for the last 10 years. Saving the Homeless, Abandoned and Abused Dogs of Nashville.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

IF ALL THE ANIMAL RESCUES WERE TO CLOSE IN NASHVILLE - WHERE WOULD THEY GO?

As an Animal Rescue we take in the Homeless, Abandoned, Abused, Neglected and those in need of Veterinary Care. We are the ones that go the extra mile to try and heal their wounds. We are the chosen ones who step up when everyone else drives by.

Where will they go if we are not here to help them?

HOW DOES HAPPY ENDINGS ANIMAL RESCUE HELP THE COMMUNITY:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

"Feed Our Pets Program"

Happy Endings has been around since 1997 and over the years we have saved hundreds of dogs off the streets of Nashville and gotten them into loving forever homes through adoption.

We also assist the elderly and handicap people on fixed incomes with pets who can't afford to feed their pets and could possibly surrender them to the pound if they couldn't feed them. We assist these people by giving them dog food, cat food or cat liter to take the financial pressure off of feeding them and just give their pets the love they deserve.

We also help other Rescues who come up short each month when it comes to feeding the animals in their care. Over the years we have become a warehouse for broken bags of dog food that grocery stores accumulate and instead of throwing them in the trash, they call us and donate them to us. We receive more than we can use each month, so we are happy to share this food with those that need it most.

If you know of someone who falls under these categories and have financial problems feeding their pets, let them know of our "Feed Our Pets Program" and lets get them the food they need to care for their pets...

When you make a Donation - it helps us pay the gas to get this much needed dog food, cat food and cat liter to the elderly and handicap people on fixed incomes with pets.

A PERSONAL THOUGHT ON WHY WE RESCUE ANIMALS:

(By Cody Gosseln - Founder & Director of Happy Endings Animal Rescue)

Most of the people involved in the Animal Rescue work have their own reasons why we do this. It not for the money. I am a witness to that. The Rescue Business if anything will make you go broke. It will take a lot of your time. It's a job 99.999% of the population of this World would never do, but for some reason we are chosen. We were chosen to help these animals out of a bad situation and get them into a loving forever home. It's a 24/7 commitment that has rewards of a different kind. It's seeing that dog that once came in broken, hungry, beaten and felt unloved.

It's an Animal Rescuers responsibility to show this animal that not all humans are bad people and slowly build up their confidence to trust humans again and when they are ready, we locate a loving forever home they will go to and be loved for the rest of their lives.

I never asked for this job, but here it is, I am an Animal Rescuer. I do the best I can, I have saved many, I have lost a few. I have cried over a dog I never knew and buried more than I want to count. I remember everyone of their names and their personality.

One of the few joys I get is when people and families send me pictures and letters of the dogs they have adopted from here. Thanking me for saving them and how much joy, laughter and love they have given to their families. This is what makes it all worth while.

Helping animals comes slow at first. You see one on the road or walking alone with their ribs showing from not eating. You decide to help one, you bring them back to health, you find them a loving home and you see how good it makes you feel that you saved a life.

Then two more come knocking, you help those two and four more come knocking. It's a battle we will never win, but as long as we save a few, those few will know they were saved and become loving happy family pets. We in the Rescue Business are doing a job you would never do, even though you love animals. Some just don't have the heart. You have to take the bad with the good.

When you have seen some of the dogs that I have seen over the years, you sometimes want to take their X owners and give them just ONE day in the life of a dog they had, but then I would be arrested for being in-humane...

AN ANIMAL RESCUERS OATH:

"I AM AN ANIMAL RESCUER"

My job is to assist God's creatures. I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs. I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures without planning or selection. I have bought dog food with my last dime. I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand. I have hugged someone vicious and afraid. I have fallen in love a thousand times. And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count. I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends. I don't often use the word "pet". I notice those lost at the road side and my heart aches. I will hand raise a field mouse and make friends with a vulture. I know of no creature unworthy of my time. I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven, but I believe there are. Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind? Some people think we are masters of the animals, but the animals have mastered themselves... something people still haven't learned. War and abuse make me hurt for the world, but a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind. We are a quiet but determined army and we are making a difference every day. There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan, nothing more rewarding than saving a life, no higher recognition than watching them thrive. There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play who, only days ago, was too weak to eat. By the love of those who I've been privileged to rescue, I have been rescued. I know what true unconditional love really is, for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many, grateful for so little. I am an Animal Rescuer. My work is never done. My home is never quiet. My wallet is always empty, but my heart is always full. (Author Unknown)...

JUST THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN IS A PLACE CALLED RAINBOWS BRIDGE:

When and animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbows Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remembered them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for the one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you both cross Rainbows Bridge together... (Anonymous)
