A Dog Sits Waiting

A dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun.
Too faithful to leave, too frightened to run.
He's been here for days now with nothing to do,
but sit by the road waiting for you.
He can't understand why you left him that day.
He thought you and he were stopping to play.
He's sure you'll come back, and that's why he stays.
How long will he suffer? How many days?
His legs have grown weak, his throat's parched dry.
He's sick now from hunger and falls, with a sigh.
He lays down his head and closes his eyes.
I wish you could see how a waiting dog dies.

Who We Are:

Very Small Group - All Volunteers
    Only ONE Foster Home
    No Shelter
No County Animal Control (so there's no place for unwanted pets, thus, causing misery, cruelty and death!)
MANY homeless pets are dropped off as is mentioned in the heartbreaking poem above!

  • Present Focus:   Rescuing puppies and their mothers (if space is available) until the animals can be transported to the North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington, NY (the world's largest no-kill shelter) to find good FOREVER homes.  Due to our extremely limited funds, we are only able to rescue canines, but do provide some assistance to felines for food and some medical care when funds are available.

  • Appalling Pet Overpopulation Problem: Step One - Established a spay/neuter program (SNAP) using grant funds  to help those who need it most (disabled, Social Security recipients, unemployed and/or those receiving government assistance)

  • A SPECIAL THANKS TO: Babe Larson and Gail Olsen!  (These two ladies make their volunteer efforts a MORE-THAN-FULL-TIME JOB!  Without them, there could be no Association!)

Adopting A Friend:

  • Screening of Prospective Adopters: We love companion animals so we screen carefully!

  • Adoption Fee:  $100 per dog

  • Visitation Appointment:  Prospective adopters may arrange an appointment to see available animals via:
    1st Choice: E-mail message to: DecaturCoPets@Gmail.com
2nd Choice: If you have a Google TALK acccount (free) & a microphone for your computer: Leave a voice message for the above address
    3rd Choice: A message on our regular voice mail: 731-852-3001 (In the event that a pop-blocker has prevented viewing this number, it's SEVEN-THREE-ONE . . . EIGHT-FIVE-TWO . . . THREE-0-0-ONE.)

  • Adoption:  Creates a vacancy enabling the Association to help another dog find their FOREVER home and, for this, both the Association and the dogs are extremely appreciative!
