2. Savannah Hardin County Animal Shelter

Our Pet List

The sole volunteer who started & maintained this PetFinder site, photos, and email responses seven days a week for the past several years is no longer welcome at the shelter. No one else has stepped forward to take over these tasks. We regret that we are unable to continue with photos and updates. Please call the shelter and ask about adoptable animals. The staff will add your name to a waiting list for a specific breed. If you would like to volunteer to take photos and handle the PetFinder information and emails for the shelter call 731-925-3303

Hardin County Animal Welfare Groups:

Other Hardin County links for Adoptable Animals are listed just below. Most of their adoptables were pulled from the high-kill Savannah/Hardin County Animal Shelter or taken in due to overflow at the shelter.

Adopting a friend

Adoption fees are payable to the City of Savannah. Cats & Kittens $30. Dogs & Puppies $40. The adoption fee includes the cost of required spay/neuter which will be performed following the payment of the adoption fee. The vets will also require vaccinations at the time of the spay/neuter at an additional cost which you will pay directly to the vet. Other costs may be incurred for recommended testing; such as fecal, heartworm. Monthly Heartworm prevention is necessary year-round. OUT-OF-AREA ADOPTIONS: Considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact at 731-925-3303. We are unable to ship or arrange transportation for adopted pets.

NOTE TO RESCUERS:

Please send a copy of your 501(c)3, mission statement, adoption contract, and a veterinary reference OR Provide proof that your non-exempt animal welfare organization spay/neuters prior to adoption or requires it by adoption contract. Most states require a health certificate for interstate travel. This requires a veterinary examination, rabies vaccination & usually other vaccinations, fecal test/wormer, etc. for the vet to do the health certificate. Our vets try to help rescue groups by allowing reduced fees for services. Generally the total cost for these services per dog would be in the $50 range. If you require a heartworm test, that is an additional $15.00 - $23.50. Additional fees apply for Kennel Cough vaccination and other services requested. One vet uses an in-depth HW test that also shows tick-borne diseases. Would you be willing to continue the rescue if a dog were heartworm positive? The rescue group is required to provide a credit card or other means of payment to the vet's office. For health certificates you must provide the name, address, & phone number of the receiving party. Additional charge for in heat, pregnant, cryptorchid dogs, or other complications. Vets are booked heavily for spay/neuter so typically cannot arrange a quick appointment. No transport assistance is available.
