NOTE: This is NOT a shelter facility. These animals are in FOSTER homes. If you are interested in a particular animal, please email us to set up an appointment to meet that animal.
Mission
Our main mission is to help the Greenbrier Animal Control animals by adopting them into our homes so that they can be listed on the internet. Without the internet, they have very little chance of ever being adopted. Another goal is to alert rescue groups when animals of their breed come into the shelter so that they can be rescued before their time is up. We will work with rescue in any way that we can. Please feel free to ask if you need anything.

Services
Our services are basically to help the animals at the shelter. However, if you are in or around the city of Greenbrier, and you have an animal that you need to find a home for, we can help you. Even if you are out of the city and need help, email us and we will try to work something out. We will take pictures of your animal and list it on our internet site. What we ask is that you agree to foster the animal while we contact rescue or until it is adopted into a new home. We ask that animals be up to date with shots and altered. If they aren't altered, they MUST be adopted on a spay/neuter contract that we will uphold. Please email us for more information

Policies

Unfortunately I have been dealing with many different problems relating to adopters lately, and as a result, I've decided to post these policy changes on the website. Please make a note of these BEFORE you email regarding a foster animal.

1) Please do not inquire about an animal unless you are 100% sure you are ready to adopt. Lately I have had problems where I've completely processed adoptions and have informed the new families that they have been approved, only to never hear from them again. For me to process an application, I must take the time to call three or more references, schedule a home visit, meet with the new adoptive family, etc. For long distance applicants, I still must call their references, regardless of long distance bills. This is not something I get paid for, and is strictly on a volunteer basis. I do it because I care about the animals. I make rescue work around my job, my family, and my own pets. Please take into consideration this fact BEFORE you email me about an animal and then decide halfway through the screening process that you've "had a change of heart". If you want to email to ask questions regarding a particular pet before you fill out the application, that is fine, and you are more than welcome to do so. But please do not abandon the adoption after the screening process is complete.

2) Do not send me a one sentence email that isn't signed and expect a reply. If your inquiry is not important enough to you for you to sign it, then it isn't important enough for me to answer. I WILL NOT answer emails that are not signed.

3) Do not email me and ask "what is the adoption fee on ______ pet?" and expect a reply. If the adoption fee is your first concern, then my first concern is do you have the resources to properly care for this pet. Pets are expensive and require vet visits and quality food. Please take this into consideration before deciding to adopt a pet.

4) Do not email me just to tell me that I am doing "X" breed an injustice by requiring an animal of that breed be altered before adoption. I do not care that you think this animal would be a "fine breeding animal". I have held far too many puppies and kittens in my arms while they were euthanized to listen to that kind of nonsense. Half of those were produced by backyard breeders that felt their pet store puppy/kitten was a "fine breeding animal", and then dumped the unwanted litter at a shelter when they realized they didn't want the responsibility. I do not have the patience, the time, or the desire to explain to you why my policies are the way they are. I require animals be altered before they leave my rescue. That gives me piece of mind that they aren't adding to the pet overpopulation problem. If you don't like it, find another rescue to adopt from.

5) Do not email me if you are under 18 years of age. I do not process applications from minors. If you are under 18 years of age, please have a parent fill out the application.

6) PLEASE read the entire description of an animal before emailing me with questions. MANY times the answers to questions are in the description, but potential adopters don't take the time to read it thoroughly before they email. I answer dozens of emails a day, and it wastes precious time for me to answer over and over again questions that the answers to are already listed if potential adopters would just read the description!!! If you have read the entire description and still do not find your question answered, or your question was answered, but not thoroughly enough to meet your needs, then by all means, email me and ask. If you want "more information", please ask me specific questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability. Serious inquiries are always welcome.

6) Do not email me and try to haggle over an adoption fee. I spend money out of my own pocket to vet these rescue animals. I receive no funding at all, and I do not make a profit. I rarely ever break even. The adoption fee is what it is depending on a variety of factors, all of which are important. Thank you for understanding.

Fees
Fees for each individual animal will vary according to costs incurred for vet care, shelter fees, etc. Legitimate rescues (those that we have worked with before or those that can provide proof of non-profit status) will be charged a very minimal fee or no fee at all. This again depends on the animal.
