Our dreamof a new facility has come true! After 10 years of operating from makeshift, make-do kennels in and around a 100 year old barn and farmhouse, we finally broke ground on a beautiful new 6,000 square foot building on Saturday, October 21, 2006. The Grand Opening of the new shelter was July 19, 2008.
This is a wonderful achievement for Union County and all of its abandoned and abused animals that are better served in this new facility. In order to finance our new building, we had to obtain a loan.
Now that we are in debt, we are relying on caring people like yourself to help us "Retire the Mortgage" on our new facility. We are diligently working on fundraising events and would also like to invite you to help out through pledging donations. Any and all amounts will be accepted and greatly appreciated! If you would like to help support this wonderful cause and huge step forward for Union County, please send your donations to: UCHS, P.O. Box 625, Maynardville, TN 37807.
We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our shelter sweeties because they are so good for them. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.
Who We Are
The Union County Humane Society is a 501c3 organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals through sheltering, education, sterilization, and legislation. The Union County Humane Society receives little funding from County or city government and is dependant on donations from caring friends like you.
Adopting a friend
Our adoption fee of $100.00 includes the following; first vaccination, deworming, spay/neuter, and microchipping. Our adult dogs are heartworm tested and on prevention and adult cats are FELV and FIV tested. Due to potential disease and danger, all our cats are adopted as inside only pets. All potential adopters must first complete an adoption application before being considered. A home visit is required before all local adoptions are approved.
We welcome out of state adoptions! Adopters are responsible for transporting their new pet to its new home via ground transportation or accompanied by the adopter in the cabin of an aircraft.....we don't adopt pets out to be treated as luggage and will not allow them to travel in the cargo compartment of an aircraft. For an additional charge we can have a pet transported to certain areas up and down the east coast. You can view the website of the transport that we use at www.petsllc.net/. Please click on schedule to see a list of stops that they make. Due to the amount of dogs they transport they do not provide "door to door" deliveries so it will be necessary for you to meet them at one of their stops listed in the schedule. If your area is not covered, you will be responsible for transporting your pet to its new "forever" home.
