Adoption Fees: $100 for dogs; $85 for cats. Fees include vet check, deworming, vaccinations, rabies, heartworm test for dogs, feline leukemia/AIDS test for cats, and spay/neuter. Note: In the rare case when a pet is too young to be spayed/neutered, state law requires a bond be levied. This bond is $50 and is 100% refundable upon proof that your new pet has been spayed/neutered. Spay/neuter is mandatory for all animals & will be closely monitored.Adoption fees may increase or decrease slightly when special circumstances exist. In these situations, the fee will be disclosed in the animal's description. Adoption Application and Agreement are required for all adoptions.
Adoption Screening Process: Our goal is to place our rescued animals in homes that best suit the animals' emotional & physical needs. These needs vary from animal to animal, so there are no "specific" requirements (i.e. fenced in yards, no young children, etc.). Prior to completing an application, we strongly encourage you to look beyond the cute face in the picture... please read the pet's bio carefully to ensure he/she sounds like a good match for your family. To respect the privacy of our foster homes & to ensure the safety of the pets in our care, visits with pets & their foster families are arranged only after an application has been given the seal of approval by our adoption coordinator. An Adoption Application must be completed & emailed back to us (preferred & most timely); faxed or snail mailed applications are also accepted but might take longer to process. Once your application is received, it will be forwarded to our adoption coordinator for review, and you might be contacted by phone or email to answer additional questions. Your veterinary & personal references will likely be contacted. And finally, a home visit will be scheduled, which entails a volunteer scheduling a time to come to your home to meet your family & see where your new pet would be spending his days & nights. We strive to complete this process & notify potential adopter's within 48 hours, but it could be less or more depending on workload & how long it takes to get in touch with references.
Very Best Pet Network (VBPN) program is a joint effort by Walmart and Purina, which lets pet adoption organizations throughout the country post pets for adoption on special bulletin boards placed in the Pet Departments at local Walmart stores. The Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery Co. posts pets for adoption at all three of Clarksville's Walmart sites: 3050 Wilma Rudolph Blvd., 1680 Fort Campbell Blvd., and 2513 Madison St. In addition to helping pets get adopted, the VBPN provides a variety of other incentives for which the Humane Society can earn additional benefits, such as Walmart/Sams Club gift cards. If you would like to help the Humane Society earn additional points towards these benefits, please volunteer to hold a community outreach event at one or more these local stores. Animal Welfare Assistance Services (AWAS) - Providing financial aid to families in need of assistance for animal care.
Anti-Tethering and Chaining Program (ATCP) - Humane education for improving the quality of life for chained or tethered animals.
Shelter and Rescue Support Program (SRSP) - Financial Aid for the medical expenses of homeless pets.
Be Aware, Responsible and Kind (BARK) - Provides speakers for adult organizations on community animal welfare issues; Dog Bite Prevention and Pet Care Programs for groups, schools, or YMCA and County Summer Programs; Stringers (freelance writers) for articles on community animal welfare issues; literature for pet owners on pet care, behavior, and community issues; and behavior and pet care counseling via email or telephone.
