Now that it is officially summer, the Estevan Humane Society would like to remind you of the dangers of leaving your pet in vehicles during hot weather. Leaving your pet in your vehicle for even a few minutes during hot sunny days can kill them.
A pet can die in only a few minutes if left in a car even with the windows rolled down, so either bring them with you inside or leave them at home, but don’t leave them in a car. The inside of a car gets hot very quickly and your pet can become overheated, even with the window partially open. Your pet could potentially die from heatstroke when trapped in high temperatures.
If your pet is exposed to high temperatures:
Be alert for signs of heat stress—heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, unsteadiness, a staggering gait, vomiting or a deep red or purple tongue.
If your pet becomes overheated, you must lower its body temperature immediately. Move your pet into the shade and apply cool (not cold) water all over its body to gradually lower its temperature. Apply ice packs or cool towels to your pet’s head, neck and chest only. Let your pet drink small amounts of cool water or lick ice cubes. Finally, take your pet directly to a veterinarian—it could save its life.
If you see an animal in a car exhibiting any signs of heat stress that include the above symptoms, call animal control/police immediately. If your animal dies as a result of being left in a vehicle, you can be charged with a felony count of cruelty to animals, which if convicted could lead to jail time.
Who We Are
Adopting A Friend
The Estevan Humane Society is dedicated to the well-being of animals and strives to place neglected, abused and abandoned animals in caring, compassionate homes that can provide all the necessities and love a good friend needs. To ensure this, there is a mandatory adoption questionaire for potential adoptors to fill out, followed by a 48 hour waiting period. The questionaire includes basic information as well as more specific information and references that will help us determine the suitability of the potential home.
Adoption fees are as follows: $75.00 for a cat and $160.00 for a dog. These pets are neutered/spayed and have one booster vaccination. If you are from out of town or adopting an animal that is too young to be altered, a $75.00 deposit is required but is refunded once sterilization of the animal has been proven. Adoption fees for unfixed animals are as follows: $50 adoption fee + $75 deposit (Total $125) for unfixed dogs, and $40 adoption fee + $75 deposit (Total $115) for unfixed cats. *Please note that we accept cash only for adoptions*

Having your pet spayed or neutered means controlling the pet population which results in less unwanted animals.
NOTE: THE ESTEVAN HUMANE SOCIETY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY ADOPTION.
