PLEASE NOTE: NOT ALL OF OUR ADOPTABLE PIGGIES HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THIS SITE YET

Not sure guinea pigs are for you? Why not consider our "Foster to Adopt" program. Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue is filled to capacity with piggies that have been surrendered for various reasons, and we need help. It's not uncommon for this to happen within a month or two from Easter, Valentine's Day or Christmas. Parents get their kids a guinea pig, only to find out that they require much more care than a hamster or a mouse, and suddenly the guinea pig is looking for a new home. Another reason why piggies have to be given up are because of allergies. A guinea pig is adopted, and suddenly a family member develops allergies to either the guinea pig or the hay, and are forced to find a new home for their furry friend. It is because of these reasons why we like our "Foster to Adopt" program, and it has been a huge success. It gives a family a chance to find out, with minimal cost, whether or not guinea pigs are a good fit for a family. If you think you might be interested in this program, please email me and I will be happy to give you all of the details. If you would like to visit Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue to see these and other adoptable piggies, please email us @ julene312@comcast.net or give us a call @ 724.448.2107 and make an appointment. I promise, you won't be sorry. **************************************************************************** Every year several hundred guinea pigs enter our rescue, looking for that special "FOREVER" home. They come in all shapes, sizes and ages, but the one thing that is always the same, they are just looking for that special family to become a part of. Please don't let the age of one of these wonderful little creatures keep you from looking into adopting them. Since guinea pigs can live for 5 -- 7 years, there is still many years left to spend with them. They all deserve and need to be loved. Won't you consider giving two (or maybe three) guinea pigs a forever home. I promise you, you will never regret adopting these engaging little friends.

Who We Are

We are a small, home based guinea pig rescue located just outside of Pittsburgh, PA.

Adopting a friend

Guinea pigs make wonderful pets. However, they do best in pairs or threes. I will adopt out only in a minimum of pairs, unless an adoptable guinea pig is going to be a new cagemate for another guinea pig already at its forever home. We use and require all of our guinea pig adopters to use the C & C cage method as a home for their guinea pigs. Sample pages can be viewed at: www.pigloo.net. Pet store cages are far too small for one guinea pig, and totally unacceptable for a pair or more. Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue is able to supply 4' x 8' coroplast at wholesale prices; and comes in 13 different colors; and we will be happy to supply simple instrutions on the cage's construction. Guinea pigs are vegetarians, and love almost all green leaf veggies. A happy cavy (another name for guinea pig) gets a steady diet of green leaffy veggies such as romaine, kale, parsley, endive, green and red leaf lettuce (but not iceberg lettuce, as it has no nutritional value). For an all around diet, add bell peppers (high in Vitamin C), chopped raw beets (great for their kidneys) and just about any other fruit or vegetables. Guinea pigs love variety. If you are interested in obtaining a complete list of veggies and fruits that piggies like, please email me and I will be happy to send it to you. Guinea pigs should always have timothy or bluegrass hay available. I don't use pellets for guinea pigs as long as they have a good diet of hay and fruits and vegetables. Bad quality pellets are pellets that have the ingredient "ethoxiquan" in them. They are a known cancer causing agent and should be avoided at all cost. Also, the prettier a a bag of pellets looks, the more they should be avoided. And believe it or not, CARROTS should only be fed in moderation. Carrots can cause kidney/bladder stones, so please feed carrots only on an occasional basis. If you have any questions on guinea pigs, their diets, possible illnesses, proper caging, etc., please email me. I will be happy to help.
