Please see our Petfinder description for more information on Charlie.
Update---Charlie has been adopted!
Charlie is doing great and putting on weight. He has been passive in his encounters with the resident dog, however, the other dog really does not like Charlie so we are putting out an urgent plea to get Charlie a new foster, or forever home as soon as possible.
Please contact Sabrina at Sabrina5844@yahoo.com if you can help Charlie.
We are still learning things about Charlie and one of the things we have learned is that Charlie LOVES to ride in the car and go places.

Charlie was rescued from the streets of Harrisburg by a very kind person who took him in, cleaned him up and gave him good food to eat. He has now been neutered and vaccinated through the Central PA Animal Alliance and is ready for his new home.
If you would like to meet Charlie or if you would like more information about him, please contact Sabrina directly at Sabrina5844@yahoo.com

Phoenix:
Phoenix was part of our inspiration to start The Phoenix Rescue Group. He was a dog that had been kept in a pen all his life. The pen was on a farm off of a back road and he spent his 12 years mostly unnoticed. He was fed sporadically, got no positive attention and never had any veterinary care.
When he got out and was hit by a car, he was thrown back in the pen. His broken leg eventually healed. His eye got infected and he eventually went blind. He developed a heart murmur which got worse as he aged.
His situation came to the attention of an animal rescuer who lived near him. She was able to persuade his elderly owner to surrender the dog, who had never even had a name. She called and asked if we had room for him. Amazingly, we did.
He was named Phoenix, in the hopes that he would have a second chance for a happy life. He was bathed and treated for fleas and worms (he had both). He went to the vet and had x-rays and bloodwork done. There was nothing to be done for his leg but he was neutered. They were unable to remove his eye because his heart murmur was so bad he could not stay under anesthesia long enough to do the surgery.
At first he was very wary of people. He would look away when you talked to him or approached him. It was heartbreaking to see because we wanted him to be happy and to know our love for him.
He finally started to come to us and we cried with joy the first time he wagged his tail. Unfortunately, this was about the same time his heart was starting to give out. He was on medication, but it was too late to help him.
We had him about six weeks when he died in my arms at the veterinary clinic.

Since creating The Phoenix Rescue Group some people have asked us why we chose the name and logo of the Phoenix. The Phoenix Bird is a part of many cultures and religions and sometimes represents the sun, rebirth, second chances, rising from the ashes, or escape from death.
We have committed ourselves to rescuing companion animals from death, abuse and neglect and attempting to give them a happy second chance for a good life going forward. We decided that the Phoenix was an appropriate symbol for that philosophy.
The founders of The Phoenix Rescue Group have been doing rescue work informally for many years now. We have decided to incorporate as a non-profit organization in order to expand the rescue possibilities for those animals in need. Our non-profit status was granted by the IRS in April of 2006.
Our main priority is to provide immediate safety and comfort for companion animals that are in danger because of abuse, neglect or abandonment. We will provide for their needs and work with other rescue groups to find permanent loving homes for them.
As funds allow, we will purchase humane dog and cat traps to help secure and relocate animals that are in dangerous situations.
If anyone reading this would like to help with these efforts, we would appreciate hearing from you. We are in need of volunteers and foster homes as well as donations.
Please send us an e-mail if you would like an adoption application
All healthy animals will be altered and current on vaccinations prior to adoption. Due to foster home constraints we are not able to take cats or kittens for adoption. There are many good organizations in our area that can help place cats and many cat rescues listed on Petfinder. Please consider using these resources:
The adoption process includes a written application, a home visit with family members and other pets and completion of an adoption contract. If you would like an application e-mailed, faxed or mailed to you, please send us a quick e-mail at
We offer a 30 day money back guarantee to help ensure that the animal you chose will fit into your life.
The standard adoption fee is $150.00 dogs/puppies
We prefer local adoptions and we will not ship any animal. Out of area applicants will be considered on a case by case basis.
All of our animals are in foster care. We also cross-post for other rescue groups and for individuals who are trying to re-home their pets. If you are interested in meeting any of the pets on our website, please use the contact information listed in the pet description.
If you have any questions, please contact us using the information listed below. We will be happy to e-mail, fax or mail you an application.
