OUR POOCH DOGS

About Project POOCH, Inc.®

Project POOCH, Inc.® is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that rescues behaviorally sound dogs from the local shelters and matches them with the selected youth incarcerated at the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility, who care for the dogs, train them, and prepare them for adoption into forever homes.

The Project POOCH kennels are located on the grounds of MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility, Woodburn, OR. The POOCH Community Outreach Office is in Lake Oswego, OR.

Project POOCH youths at MacLaren care for the dogs every day, and also groom and obedience training their dogs (with the help of professionals).

The Adoption Fee is $195.
To hold a dog, Project POOCH must receive a $50 deposit that will be applied toward the adoption fee. $25 of the amount is a non-refundable home visit fee and is charged to cover the cost of transportation.

If the dog is adopted, the $25 will be credited toward the $195. If there is a home visit and the dog is not adopted $25 of the deposit will be refunded.

When the dogs are ready for adoption, they are: AKC Canine Good Citizen

Project POOCH is a win/win program for both the youths and the dogs. The youths learn responsibility, compassion, consistency, patience, trust and love from the dogs, while the dogs learn clicker obedience training, consistency, fun, trust and love as well. The dogs leave the program happy, healthy and ready to be great house pets. The young men leave the program ready to re-enter the community with new job skills, greater ability to express compassion, and increased sense of confidence.

How to Adopt a POOCH

THE FIRST STEP in adopting one of our pooches is to complete and submit our ADOPTION APPLICATION. Next we will arrange a meeting between your family and the dog, either at the kennels in Woodburn, or in your home.

On a second visit, if our mutual schedules allow, you may be invited to keep the dog overnight, and if that visit goes well, then for a few days. If you and the dog are a good match, we will complete the adoption.

Since people sometimes change their minds about a dog, Project POOCH considers a dog “available for adoption” until a submitted application has been received and approved. Final approval typically occurs only after the home visit.

During the visit, Project POOCH gives you plenty of time to decline the dog if it doesn't fit well with your family or lifestyle. It is our goal to find these dogs their “forever” homes and we recognize that you need time to consider your decision to adopt carefully and to think seriously about the many responsibilities that go along with pet ownership.

Project POOCH stays in close touch with all of our adopters, both as you move through the adoption process and after the adoption. We love these dogs as our own and want the very best for them. We will support them, and you, in any way we can.
