DOGGIES! KITTIES! HORSIES! The Whole Crew

Pet of the Month ...... RJ!

Our pet of the month introduces himself...

RJ is a beautiful, older, blue merle, sheltie with some sabling and one blue eye. He has some arthritis and is a little over weight, but loves everyone and everything. He was was shaved because his coat was so thick and he was a bit matted. It is growing back nicely now though. He is house trained and a good watchdog. Would love a nice quiet home with a fenced yard, or a country home. He is a real stay at home kind of guy.

Notes and News

Many of our Klamath Falls supporters are aware that we have now moved all of our animals out of the county. Space and legal constraints required us to move from our picturesque setting on Bly Mountain but our search for suitable property with in the county proved fruitless. On the suggestion of friends, we began looking in Northern Nevada. After considering several prospective pieces, we found 600 acres, owner financed with reasonable terms. This presented us with a fabulous opportunity to start from scratch and build the type of facilities we had always dreamed of. The challenges would be (and still are) great, however, because the property had absolutely nothing on it. With donated building materials, we began putting together the dog runs and kitty condos our critters would need and slowly moved them into their new homes. Our on site volunteers are currently living in campers, trailers and the one mobile home that our current license allows. You may be asking "Where does that leave Klamath County?" Our plan had been to get the permanent site in Nevada up and running and then search the area in and around Klamath Falls for a suitable site. We were planning to move our Thrift Store to a better location adjacent to a new adoption center. However, when a tragic fire destroyed our store (killing several kitties in the process) our plans literally went up in smoke. The store was a major source of funding for the sanctuary and our primary contact with our supporters here in Klamath. With out it, our entire program is in jeopardy. We are currently looking into funding options, but until the Nevada site is fully operational and self sufficient, we cannot consider reopening an adoption center here.

Gifts From the Heart

"Gifts From The Heart" , that is what our pets give us! Unconditional Love and Acceptance. No questions asked. They are there for us. Can we be there for them? Unicorn Point Animal Sanctuary, a No-Kill, Care-for-Life rescue organization has located their Rescue Ranch in Northern Nevada. We are a federally recognized, 501(c)3 non-profit organization . We have our kennel license and business license. We receive no federal, state or county funding. Since our thrift store burned, we are funded 100% by donation. Now you can give back to the animals, with our "Gifts From The Heart" program. If we are going to be able to continue to care for the animals, we need 200 people to commit to $10. a month or more for the next year, while we get on our feet. This can be done as a group, club or individual, or in the name of a beloved pet, family member or friend. Are you someone that always says how much you love animals? Now is the time to prove it. Send a Gift From The Heart this year. And save lives. Please let us know if you would like a card and certificate sent. Thank you from all of the Fur-kids at Unicorn Point. P.O.Box 7479 Klamath Falls, OR 97602
It is very important to note here that Unicorn Point is fully staffed by VOLUNTEERS. That's right, not one person working for the welfare of these wonderful animals is paid for their time. All have outside jobs that cover their own personal expenses and most of what's leftover is used for the benefit of the animals. This is not written to imply that the people involved are saints (though personally I feel that many are), it is said to assure you that 100% of your donations benefit the animals for whom you have intended it. UPAS is a federally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization and your donations are fully tax deductible.

Who We Are

Unicorn Point Animal Sanctuary is a No-Kill Care for Life pet sanctuary. Given the space and resources, we will take in just about any type of animal that can be considered a pet. Not just your average dogs and cats, but we have also had sheep, goats, horses, pot bellied pigs, turkeys, chicken, pheasants, and various other fowl. We have also had numerous small furry rodents and a scaly creature or two. We are currently home for a miniature horse, a lama and a beautiful pair of emu. We have taken in animals from other states as well. At the moment we have cats from Seattle, Dallas, Boston, Utah, and Lelani came to us all the way from Hawaii. Now, not all of these animals are available for adoption. When we take in an animal, we feel we are making a commitment to caring for that animal for the rest of it's natural life. We will asses that animals character and temperament as well as it's physical and emotional needs to determine its adoptability. If there are no barriers to adoption, a suitable home will be sought. This could take days, weeks, or months. We have had some animals in our program for years before just the right home came along. And if the right home does not present itself, we will simply keep that critter ourselves, giving it all the loving attention it needs.
Until our financial situation has improved, we are unable to accept any new animals.

Adopting a Friend

Our adoption process is not long or complicated. There is an initial application which we use to assess your needs in order to help you find the right pet. There will then be an interview with a member of our board of directors which may include a home visit. We will then take a close look at the animal that you're interested in to see if it is suitable for your situation. If you have selected an animal that does not seem right for you for one reason or another, we will discuss this with you and assist you in finding one better suited to your living situation or needs. Once the right animal is found, there is an adoption agreement to be thoroughly read and signed by both you and the member of the board approving your adoption.
