News

Foster homes are urgently needed to save more dogs. Please send an email for further information about fostering a dog in your home. We are also in need of bleach, dog beds, dog food, treats, and dog toys. Please email us about where these items can be dropped off. There are many others involved in the process of rescuing dogs. We would like to thank the shelter staff that work with us to let us know about the urgent dogs; the transport coordinators and the drivers that give their time up to drive the dogs to safety. Also the volunteers that go to get the dogs from the shelters and who help to care for the dogs. The places and people who donate food and money to covers costs. Everyone works so hard when dogs lives are at stake. Thanks to all of you...

Who We Are

"Nickquenum" is an Native word that means "I am going home" We are a non profit organization formed by a small group of volunteers. We do not receive any funding. We do not have paid staff. Vet bills, food, and related costs are paid for by the volunteers or donated.

Our Mission:

Our mission is to find permanent loving homes for adoptable dogs rescued from humane societies and animal shelters. In all cases these dogs would otherwise be euthanized due to lack of space. Adoptable means they they have good temperaments. Viscious dogs are not rescued. We do not accept owner surrendered dogs into our rescue program at this time.

Adopting a friend

Please send an email telling us about your situation/lifestyle, location and what specifically you would like to know about a particular dog if it is not already listed in the posting. We don't adopt dogs to famiiles with children under 5 years of age. We like adopters to have a securely fenced yard. The process for adoption includes: If your situation seems to be a good match for the dog you are interested in you will be asked to complete an adoption application. If that is approved you will be contacted and a time will be set up to meet the dog. All members of the family must meet the dog. If the meeting goes well and you like the dog and the dog likes you, a home visit is scheduled. The final step is the signing of the adoption agreement. There is an adoption donation that covers the cost of the dogs vet care which includes spaying/neutering.

All dogs have received vaccinations and are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. When you come to pick up your new family member please bring along a collar and leash. Please note that adoption applications are not processed on a first come first serve basis. We seek the best match possible and may consider several applications. If your application is approved you will be notified. We do not do same day adoptions. We try to answer emails and messages as promptly as possible so please be patient. For an adoption application please email: northernpassage17@yahoo.ca
