Who We Are:

The Toronto Humane Society has undergone many change since 1887 and the days of John J. Kelso. The Society has a modern facility that houses
it's shelter, clinic and administrative offices. Technological advances such as computerized record-keeping, microchip pet identification and rapid-fire telecommunications systems have enhanced the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of shelter operations. The Society continues to operate as an independent not-for-profit organization supported by an infrastructure of strategic partnerships and alliances, and individual and corporate donations. The day-to-day operation of the shelter involves the direct handling of lost, abandoned, unwanted and injured pets and wildlife.

LOOKING FOR A NEW BEST FRIEND?

Our adoption centre is dedicated to helping each potential owner choose an animal best suited to the owner's life style. Each animal currently available for adoption has his or her own special story and some have yet to feel the comfort and security of a loving home. Your interest in adopting one of our special friends means that you are a caring and responsible person. Make no "bones" about it - adopting a pet is a very important decision! And, like any important decision, it requires a lot of thought and consideration. Adopting a pet means making a commitment to care for the animal for the rest of his or her lifetime. With this in mind take a moment to reflect upon the following:

Are You Ready For a New Pet?

Your pet will be a part of your life for anywhere between 10 - 20 years depending upon which type of pet you
choose. Make sure everyone in your household is certain of the responsibilities of owning a pet and is in agreement
with your decision!

Animal companions need food, water, exercise, care and love every day of the year. These needs shouldn't be
denied because you are too busy or you don't have enough money.

Whether you live in a small apartment, travel frequently or have an unpredictable schedule, you must be sure to
adopt an animal who will be comfortable in your home and with your lifestyle.

All of the animals in our shelter mean a great deal to us and our adoption centre is dedicated to finding them
devoted, caring owners who are willing to provide permanent homes.
