Thank you for visiting A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue's Home Page. Please be sure to read over this page and our website before contacting us. Most of the questions you may have about our parrot/bird acceptance and adoption procedures are noted there.
Our website is at: http://aparrottoaflamingorescue.zoomshare.com
Our adoption application process starts out via email. Our link for birds available for adoption at this time is noted at the end of this page. Birds are subject to adoption at any time. This list is revised as fast as we can.
Who We Are
A-Parrot to A-Flamingo, Inc., Parrot Rescue is an Ohio-registered nonprofit parrot/pet bird rescue facility. We are also registered as a "No Kill" organization. We are located in northern Ohio, and all birds come in and go out through A-Parrot's Brecksville, Ohio location.
A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue has taken the place of the Bird Placement Program in the northern Ohio area now. Bird Placement Program is now CLOSED due to the passing of the Director of BPP, Dottie Schira. A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue's policies are pretty much the same as BPP's were.
The issue of Adopting Out vs. Selling an Animal
"Adopting out" birds is what our organization does. Brokers/Sellers will "sell" birds to the first person who has the money. A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue's policies and screening policies are rather detailed if you wish to apply to adopt a bird from us, so your patience is appreciated. A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue works hard to make sure our birds are placed in the best homes we can find for them. It may take us a little while to find just the right home for our birds, but moving out birds for a fast profit is NOT what A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue does.
If you already adopted a bird thru Fran from Bird Placement Program from 2003 to 2007, the adoption process will be expedited if your info is already in our files. Inquire.
A-Parrot's adoption policies apply to everyone who contacts us. Please read this info over carefully before you contact us so that there are no misunderstandings about our policies.
Donating your Bird to A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue
Our organization accepts parrots and small cage birds in need of a new home, for any reason. Our adoption process is very specific to make sure every bird in our possession finds just the Adopter. A-Parrot to A-Flamingo, Inc. is unable to take in wild birds, pigeons, doves, or farm birds.
Older or younger parrots , tame or not tame, are accepted. We will also take in any "unwanted" pink plastic garden Flamingos too :-) However, your bird/parrot must be in good health and condition to be placeable by A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue.
A-Parrot's website will explain more. Email us if you wish more info.
Do You Wish to Proceed with A-Parrot's Adoption Process?
1. Adopters must reside within driving distance close to the State of Ohio.
2. A-Parrot does not ship birds. We do not deliver birds to you, nor do we meet you part way for drop-off.
3. A-Parrot does not adopt out any bird for breeding purposes.
4. We are looking for adult Adopters who are serious about taking in an older bird and who are willing to follow A-Parrot's adoption process. We are looking for bird owners experienced in the actual care of parrots. Several pre-adoption determination emails will start our adoption process. Your patience is sincerely appreciated.
5. To adopt a parrot: One must have recently owned the same or similar species of parrot (Macaw, Cockatoo, Conure, Quaker, etc.) that you wish to adopt from us. As verification, the potential Adopter must be able to supply us with a proof copy of a parrot ownership receipt . Priority for adopting a parrot is always given to someone who can supply us this receipt -- pictures do not count.
6. Donation info is explained in your last pre-determination email.
7. A-Parrot is unable to grant "visits" until our potential adopter goes thru A-Parrot's pre-adoption email determination first, and then your application must be approved by our Board of Directors.
9. Others may be "applying" for the same bird as you are. A-Parrot's Board of Directors makes all final adoption decisions. All approved adopters stay on our list to get a bird from us at a later date also.
10. Other adoption policies and qualifications apply. See our website. Our policies may change without notice also.
If you feel you tentatively qualify per the above requirements, congratulations! Please email us to start your pre-determination adoption mails. We are looking forward to meeting you via email!
We thank you for checking out our parrot rescue organization. However, after reading over this info page, if you are not happy with A-Parrot's adoption policies so far, then it would be best if you contact another parrot rescue organization listed here on Petfinder. Our adoption qualifications and policies apply equally to all tentative applicants.
WHY ARE A-PARROT'S ADOPTION POLICIES SO DETAILED AND SPECIFIC?
We are very concerned that every parrot/bird that goes thru our organization for placement finds the right home, not just "a" home. You may email us, and we will explain why our policies are the way they are.
Adopting a COCKATIEL, BUDGIE, LOVEBIRD, FINCH, CANARY
New bird owners may easily qualify for these species of birds. Usually cockatiels can make good pets for first-time bird owners. No proof of ownership receipt is necessary to adopt the small birds. There is still an email process to follow, though. If you are new to bird ownership, please be sure to do your research on bird species and care first.
A-Parrot
to A-Flamingo, Inc.'s Funding: ![]()
A-Parrot to A-Flamingo, Inc, Parrot Rescue is registered in the State of Ohio as a nonprofit parrot/pet bird rescue organication. We are a non-501C3 (our choice). Our Federal EIN number is available upon request. Our organization gets no grants or federal financial support so we depend on donations and monetary gifts in order to keep purchasing seed, pellets, treats, veggies, and fruit for our rescues. The only way we are able to keep feeding and caring for birds available for placement, and more birds coming in, is by the generosity of our Clients. A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue, Inc. could not do this without you!

RE: The closing of Bird Placement Program (BPP) in June 2007
The predecessor to A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue, The Bird Placement Program, is now closed due to the passing of Dottie Schira, the Director of BPP, on June 5, 2007. We worked together for 20 years placing birds for BPP. It was Dottie's choice that BPP closes at her passing.
Bird Placement Program has NOT been transferred to any of her family members (i.e., Dottie's daughter, Amber Schira) or any other person. Nonprofit organizations cannot be transferred to family members as nonprofit organizations are not family-owned businesses. (See the IRS for other nonprofit rules.)
Some old outdated webpages are still locked on the internet, but Dottie's actual BPP website (20+ pages) is off the web now. Donations will no longer be going to this organization, and any paperwork showing up with BPP wording or letterhead is used under unauthorized use.
I have merely tried to clear up some misunderstandings circulating now.
