Who We Are
Second Chances Dalmatian Rescue works to rescue abused, abandoned, unwanted and homeless Dalmatians with priority given to those in the greatest danger of euthanasia. The organization will also work to promote responsible pet ownership, spay and neuter programs, and community education. We will ensure quality of life for family pets by seeking safe, loving and caring homes when placing Dalmatians.
Adopting a friend
Our adoption process consists of completing an application, including providing vet and personal references. Once the references are checked, a volunteer will contact you to discuss potential matches and to schedule a home visit. After the home visit is complete and you are approved as a home a time to do the adoption will be arranged. Our adoption fee is $200 which helps us cover the costs of spaying/neutering all of the dogs that come into rescue, making sure they are current on all vaccinations, a urinalysis, we heartworm test them and start them on heartworm preventative, we also do a fecal test and any de-worming that is needed. All of our rescues are also microchipped.
We screen potential adoptors very carefully in order to find the best possible match for both you and the rescued dog. We do not always operate on a first come, first serve basis. Rather, we adopt based on the best match.
No Dalmatians will be placed into homes known to have intact companion animals, let their pets roam free, or have exhibited irresponsible care of current or previous pets. If your current pets fall into any of these categories, please, do not apply!!
Second Chances Dalmatian Rescue is made up of volunteers, many of whom have full time jobs. We always try to respond in a timely manner, but please be patient. Our focus is providing the best possible match for all of our foster dogs. We will adopt out based on the best fit, not first come first serve basis.
All adoptions are expected to be lifetime commitments. We will disclose all known behaviors, health or emotional issues to interested applicants prior to adoption. If you have young children, are recently married, plan on having children or are planning on moving in the near future, please think about how a dog will fit into your long term lifestyle changes. It is our policy not to adopt puppies (dogs under 6 months of age) to families with children under 10 due to puppies and young dogs requiring extensive amounts of time to properly train and socialize.
PLEASE NOTE: Our adoption fee for dogs under 1 year of age is $250.00 $50.00 is refundable upon proof of taking the dog to obedience classes within 60 days of adopting.
Due to the number of Dalmatians in shelters we do not accept owner surrenders however we can assist you with re-homing your Dalmatian and will work with you to try to keep your Dalmatian.
Come Visit Us!
Second Chances Dalmatian Rescue does not have a physical location. We are made up of volunteers who take these dogs into their homes where they become part of the family. Our foster homes are located throughout Ohio, Michigan,Indiana and Texas. We will do out of state adoptions, our same screening process and home visit requirement will apply. We will also help with transportation if the home is approved.
Because we are all volunteers, many with full time jobs, we will make every effort to respond to your inquiry within 48 hours.
While we do not have a physical location, we do participate in many adoption events where you can come and see some of the dogs that are currently in need of homes. Please contact us for additional information.
