Our Featured Pet...

Marble
Marble is a beautiful, three month old silver tabby, with distinct marbled markings on both of her shoulder areas. The markings appear to be spots, such as those found on a Bengal mix cat. Marble has an outstanding personality as well. She loves people, and is an "instant purrer." She begins to purr the instant you pick her up. For more information on adopting Marble, contact the Humane Society of Columbiana County at 330 - 332 - 2600 or via e-mail at austinsfam@aol.com Shelter hours are Monday and Thursday from 6 pm - 8 pm, and Saturday from 10 am - 12 noon, or by appointment.

News

The Salem Humane Society dba Humane Society of Columbiana County (HSCC) is a non-profit organization which receives no county or city funding. Combined, local animal welfare organizations are receiving an average of 100 abandoned cats and kittens per week, with an average of just 10 adoptions per week. We do the best job we can with the resources available to us, but there are simply not enough homes for the high number of animals being born each and every day. Bluntly put, cats and kittens are euthanized in the tri-county area every day! Every resident can make a difference by voicing their support of spay/neuter as a way to reduce euthanasia rates, and educating those who post "free kitten" ads on the importance of spay/neuter. Most shelter cats were once "free kittens" and they deserve a chance at life; something better than the fate to which their previous owners and breeders resigned them. "Just say No" to free kitten and free puppy ads and say "Yes!" to adopting a shelter pet and saving a life.

Help put an end to pet overpopulation and encourage your friends, family, neighbors, etc. who own unaltered pets, to please Spay and Neuter. We offer a wonderful Spay A Stray program for cats and can provide information on affordable spay and neuter for owner's pets also (cats and dogs.) Please contact us for more information.

Who We Are

The Humane Society of Columbiana County is a non-profit animal welfare organization that strives to improve the quality of life of homeless or abused animals. We promote responsible animal ownership in Columbiana County by educating the public about proper veterinary care and animal welfare issues. We provide programs that aid in the reduction of pet overpopulation, as well as adopt companion and domesticated animals into lifelong homes. We strive to provide a deputized County Humane Officer who assists in the enforcement of animal cruelty laws.

Adopting a friend

All of our adoptable cats have been tested for Feline AIDS and Feline Leukemia with negative results, dewormed and de-fleaed. All cats will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They are also vaccinated against Rabies, if they were old enough at the time of spay/neuter to receive that vaccination. All cats will be adopted with their initial Feline Leukemia and Distemper vaccination. Booster vaccinations are included in the adoption package, if the cat has been in our care long enough to receive this vaccination. Otherwise, booster shots will be the responsibility of the new owner.

Dogs will be adopted with, at a minimum, spay/neuter, deworming, de-fleaing, initial standard vaccinations, and Rabies vaccination. Adult dogs will be heartworm tested as well.

With all of their basic health care addressed, these animals now need a responsible, loving guardian, willing to make a lifetime commitment to their new pet. We have many cats, and a few dogs, who have been waiting patiently for that special someone to take them home.

An adoption fee is collected in an effort to recoup the medical costs of providing these basic requirements to each pet, and to ensure a good home. The adoption fees are as follows:

Adult cats $75.00 Kittens: $90.00 Siamese Adults: $90 Siamese-mix kittens: $125 Mixed breed dogs: $125 Purebred and Designer dogs: $150 Puppies: $140 Purebred and Designer puppies: $150

This package would cost over $250. - $300, at many veterinarian offices. As you can see, morally and financially, adopting a homeless pet from a shelter is a good thing. Make a positive difference in the life of a shelter pet. Adopt one today. It's the purrfect way to save a life.

If you would like to visit or adopt one of our homeless felines or canines, please leave a message at 330-332-2600 or e-mail austinsfam@aol.com Someone will return your call to set up an appointment.

Thanks to our various members who have donated carriers, pet food, litter, pet toys, etc. These donations are very much appreciated and put to good use.

The Humane Society of Columbiana County is a participating member of the Very Best Pet Network (VBPN) program. VBPN is a Purina for Pets program which partnered HSCC with the Salem and East Liverpool WalMarts to promote our homeless pets. A VBPN signboard, located in the pet section of each WalMart, provides us the opportunity to showcase our adoptable pets.
