Our Featured Pet...
Today's pet is London. We will let her tell you her story.
Hello!
My name is London. I am approximately one year old. A family saw me limping by their home one night and called the police right away. The SPCA was closed, so the police immediately paged the Emergency Driver to come rescue me. I was quickly whisked to the SPCA where I was warmed up and given a much needed meal.
Upon arriving I was examined by the Veterinary Technician. My front paw appeared to be "bent", I had an infected abscess on my side, and I was severely dehydrated. I also did a LOT of eating those first few days. I love my canned food.
I was then transported to Dr. Gerber's office, where he determined that my "bent" paw may be due to an old break that has now healed. Although I look a little different from other cats, I get along just fine. While walking, I sometimes keep my paw tucked, and sometimes I use my special leg to walk with. It does not bother me at all.
After receiving antibiotics and ointment for my infection, (which I very kindly let the staff administer with no complaints from me), it was discovered that I was coming down with an upper respiratory infection and an eye infection. So that meant even more antibiotics from me. Good thing I am so easy going!!!
I am now ready to meet my new family. I am very grateful to the family that summoned help when I needed it, (because I cannot dial the phone), and to Dr. Gerber for his expertise in over-seeing my care. I do have some special requests, though. Since I do not walk on the bottom of my one paw my family needs to make sure to trim my nails so they do not overgrow and hurt me. Also, I do not mind other cats but I despise dogs, they really scare me. I know I am not able to run away from a dog and climb a tree to escape danger. I need to be an indoor kitty only. I am also scared by long "sticks" like brooms and mops. The staff thinks someone may have chased me with a long "stick" before.
I am waiting for you, new family. Please come soon!!!

Who We Are
The Niagara SPCA is community supported, depending primarily on dues and donations from people like you who are concerned about homeless pets. We are not financially supported by any city, town, county or state governments. We are tremendously grateful for any and all support that our shelter receives, including donations of pet and cleaning supplies. Dog and cat food, kitty litter, treats and toys are just a few of the items we gratefully accept. Even the smallest of gifts add up to equal an enormous amount of love and care for the animals. Thank you, everyone, for your continued support!!!
