With a full barn of adoptive horses in desperate need of a home, Ashley's Barn is looking for adoptive homes and any donations for the horses in our care! We have a desperate need for funds for hay, grain and essential medications and vitamins for our older and inferrmed animals. Monetary donations are tax deductable and are so desperatley needed! Please help us give these guys the care that they require and deserve during the most difficult time of the year! We currently have 3 horses out in foster homes where they are doing very well. Each of these foster homes is considering adopting the horses that they are caring for and falling in love with. Should they not be adopted they will then be available for adoption. Ashleys Barn is a distributor of BICKMORE Leather Care Products and Macwipes. Bickmore leather products have been around for many years, Macwipes are a witch-hazel based disposable cleansing clothes [similiar to baby-wipes]. Our leather care and macwipe items are both available in a variety of sizes, ie, stable size and trail size making them great for cleanups on the go . We also have some Horse Treats cookbooks available. These cookbooks are a compilation of horse and other animal treats recipes that have been put together by our volunteers. Last but not least, we have 12oz. ceremic mugs imprinted with our logo [pegasus jumping through a circle]. ALL PROCEEDS OF SALES OF THESE PRODUCTS GO DIRECTLY TO THE SUPPORT OF OUR EQUINE FRIENDS. If you'd like to purchase any of these items, please call or e-mail the rescue. As we come to the close of 2007 we are proud to say that we have placed 37 horses into wonderful loving homes in the past 4 years. Sadly, five of those horses have become dearly departed. We know that the last days for each of them were kind and gentle and they knew they were loved. Ashley's Barn has a wonderful range of horses: Yearlings, riding horses, and companion horses. Any of them would make great additions to your equine environment. All of our horses are up to date on vaccinations and worming, get regular hoof care and LOTS of love and attention. Call us today to arrange a visit to meet the gang. NOTE: Because of the ongoing threat of computer viruses, no emails to the rescue will be opened without specific information in the subject line. If you are interested in a specific horse, please note the horse's name in the subject line. If you are inquiring about donating or volunteering, please note same in the subject line. Any other emails will be deleted without being read. We apologize for any inconvenience, but replacing computer equipment is out of our budget! Thanks for your help.

Who We Are

Ashley's Barn is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit horse and large animal rescue and shelter, located in Hudson, NY. We rescue abused, abandoned and surrendered horses and work with them to restore them to both physical and emotional health. On many occasions we are called upon to rescue horses that are going to be sent for slaughter. These are perfectly wonderful horses who have many years of good and useful life in them. Donations are very much needed to enable us to pay the "meat price" to rescue these horses and put them in good homes. We maintain a list of qualified adoptive homes and hope to find the perfect match for both horse and adoptive family.

Adopting a friend

Anyone wishing to adopt a horse or other large animal from Ashley's Barn should send a sase to us at the address listed below requesting an adoption application. Once you have filled it out and returned it to us, you will be placed on our adoptive family list and will be contacted by someone from Ashley's Barn. We require that all horses or other large animals be adopted within a 50 mile radius of the shelter. It is our practice to follow up with the animals on a regular basis, and farther than 50 miles will become difficult.

Can't Adopt? Other Ways To Help

Foster Homes

Ashley's Barn is also looking for qualified foster homes. If you are a horse owner and have an extra stall or pasture, please consider fostering a horse, cow, goat, llama, or other large animal that needs temporary shelter in a safe and loving environment. If you think you would like to foster for us, please contact us at (518) 828-0651.

Sponsorship Program

Sponsoring is the support that allows us to maintain the horses that are our permanent residents- or to help a horse you choose until that horse has found a home with an adoptive famiy. Being a sponsor means you are personally helping to feed, shelter and nurture a horse in need. Sponsorships enable us to provide nutritious grains, hays and feed supplements to our horses; to provide medical and herbal remedies when needed; to provide for therir comfort and security. As a sponsor, you can visit "your" horse ( by appointment ), brush him/her, bring treats , or just bring hugs. For more information on sponsorship, e-mail us with your name and address for a sponsor form. The fee for sponsorship is $50 per month , or an annual sponsorship of $500.

Volunteering At Ashley's Barn

Volunteering is a wonderful way to spend time with these wonderful souls. As a volunteer, you can brush, feed and/or ride specific horses at Ashley's Barn. So much can be gained from spending time with these guys. It can be a good way for a new horselover to experience the excitement of horses, or give the experienced horseman a great way to relax and spend time, when available. Persons 12-18 years of age must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian while volunteering. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at (518) 828-0651 for an appointment.
