The
Guilderland Animal Shelter is a non-profit animal shelter that is
run by the Guilderland Animal Control Unit. This shelter only
takes in stray or seized dogs and cats. It does not accept
owner-surrendered animals.
Stray animals are given 5 days for their owners to claim. If
their owners cannot be found or contacted, these animals are then
made available for adoption to the public. The Guilderland
Shelter charges minimal adoption fees, compared with other shelters
in the area. Dog adoption fees are currently $30.00, which
includes spaying and neutering! On the downside though is that
this is a small shelter that has limited space and may have to
euthanize dogs that have been there a while if space is needed.
The Guilderland Shelter has several volunteers that come into the
shelter on a regular basis to walk, feed, clean and play with the
animals. Through interaction with these animals, volunteers
are able to "get to know" the animals and pass on any
information about them to prospective adoptors.
The shelter currently holds adoption clinics at the shelter every
Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 Noon until 3:00PM.
The Shelter is located at 6351 Frenches Mill Road in Guilderland
Center, NY, not far from the Guilderland High School. It is
located approximately 2.5 miles south of Route 20 off Route 146 (see
map below).
