Who We Are
The Adirondack Humane Society is a not-for-profit shelter. We opened our shelter doors in August, 1998 and have since placed over 1,800 animals into loving, forever homes. We are committed to fulfilling our mission of "exisitng to improve the well-being of companion animals and the people with whom they live." This mission is carried out through a number of community outreach programs, such as, our Spay/Neuter Incentive program (SNIP), Humane Education classes for schools and civic groups, a food shelf (when available) to help which makes food avaialable for companion animals in need, and the obvious, surrender (space permitting) and companion animal adoption program.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting one of our four-legged friends, please stop in and visit or go to www.adkhs.org to recieve an adoption application. Once submitted, there is a 24 hour waiting period while adoption applications are reviewed.
I n order for AHS to continue providing our adoptable companion animals with the level of physical, psychological and medical care we feel they deserve, it is neccessary for us to increase our adoption fees. The fee to adopt one of our wonderful companion animals will be $90 beginning July 1, 2004. This increase in fees is merely a means for AHS to keep up with the cost of veterinary care and ensure that you are adopting a healthy animal. The fee includes the provision of a few new benefits, including pediatric spaying and neutering of puppies and those kittens 12 weeks of age and older, as well as heartworm testing and a month of prevention for all of our canines.
All of our felines are tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV and all of our animals are up to date on vaccinations.
*For all kittens under 12 weeks of age, a portion of the adoption fee ($35) is a refundable spay/neuter deposit. This deposit is returned to the adopter upon reciept of proof of the spaying/neutering of your adopted comapanion animal by 6 months of age*
