Our Pet List

PLEA TO THE PUBLIC - We are in DESPERATE need of cat litter & paper towels. Please help!!

STOP THE OVER POPULATION OF HOMELESS & UNWANTED PETS-
Spay & Neuter ALL animals you have !

Please Spay and Neuter Your Pets!

There are so many homeless animals! And so many litters of cats and dogs being born! Please spay and neuter your pets to avoid unwanted litters. Both male and female animals should be fixed. Spaying or neutering will not make the animal lazy or slow. The animal will be just as playful and energetic. The female will not go into heat and the male will not be seeking a female in heat. Neutering males also reduces their tendency to fight other male dogs.

How can you help?

* !! #1 Way to Help Animals - PLEASE Spay & Neuter Your Pets !! This helps control the population of animals which in turn equals less unwanted and/or uncared for pets.

Who We Are...

The SPCA in Cattaraugus County, is a non-profit, no-kill charity animal shelter, and was founded in 1905. We are dedicated to saving the lives of animals, and providing adoption services for homeless and neglected animals. Donations and fundraisers account for approximately 70%+ of our yearly income. Over the past fifteen years, we have helped to find loving homes for over 25,000 animals. We are the largest animal shelter in New York's southern tier. In 1984, we moved into a building located on 11 acres, with significantly more space than our previous location. We have 68 dog kennels (indoor/outdoor) and 4 rooms dedicated to housing cats including 2 open cat rooms that allows the cats to romp & play without being confined to a cage. Four large outdoor play yards, approximately 400 sq. ft. each, are used as exercise areas for the dogs. We also have a barn to house farm animals removed from cruelty cases. A large medical/restricted area serves as temporary housing for animals in need of medical attention, rehabilitation, or recovery time. Here they receive individual treatment from our medical staff in a controlled environment.

Adopting a friend

Adopting an animal should not be an impulse decision or done in haste. Please take the time to research which breed would be best for you & your family. We can help you with this at the shelter or you can do it online at Petfinder.com. We also recommend that you make frequent visits to the shelter - spend time with the animals you might be interested in - get to know them & let them get to know you. We want our animals to be happy with you & you to be happy with the animal(s) you've chosen to become a member of your family.

Adoption fees are as follows:

DOGS (Mixed breeds) (over 6 months)- Female: $70 Male: $70
Licenses:
$13 unneutered/spayed
$5 neutered/ spayed
PUPPIES (under 6 months)- $80.00
Purebred animals are $105.00
Includes: Microchipping, Spay/Neuter, Distemper and Rabies shots, Defleaing, and Deworming.
We recommend that all dogs adopted be indoor or indoor/outdoor dogs with an enclosed kennel area. This eases the risk of loss, diseases, injury, etc.... Please take the proper precautions during incliment weather - especially extreme cold. Dogs enjoy a fenced-in yard in which they can run and play.

CATS (over 6 months)- Female: $60 Male: $60
KITTENS (under 6 months)- $70
Includes: Microchipping, Spay/Neuter, Distemper and Rabies shots, Negative testing for Feline Leukemia, Defleaing, and Deworming.
* Cats and kittens must go home in a pet carrier. If you do not have one, cardboard carriers are available at the shelter for $6.00.
Cats/kittens should be kept strictly indoors to avoid disease, injury, loss and preditors.

**Please note: if an animal is not spayed or neutered before it leaves there is a $50 deposit required for a NYS voucher. When the adopter receives the voucher in the mail (2 weeks after adoption) they can either have the animal spayed/ neutered through the SPCA's low cost clinic (at no extra charge) or through their own vet. If you choose to go through your own vet please ensure to send a copy of the spay/neuter certificate to the SPCA to receive your $50 deposit back.
