Candy Needs a Home

Candy still waits for her perfect human companions. This very pretty girl is about 1 year old and loves to play, so she would do best in a home with a fenced yard. She has already had some obedience training and would love a home where they plan to help her continue her "education." On the "QT," she's mentioned that she'd love some agility training because she thinks those barrels and tires look like fun to romp around. . . . But most of all she needs a home with lots of love. Call and come meet Candy - she thinks she looks much better in person, and we agree! Click Here to find out about adopting Candy, or to see our other wonderful pets for adoption!

Adoption Days

Sometimes it is difficult for people who want to adopt an animal to visit a shelter environment, so P.A.L., participates in Adoption Days, provided courtesy of Petsmart, Petco, PetGoods, Choice Pets and Best Friends Animal Care Center. These events bring adoptable animals to local pet stores, where it is easy for people to meet them. Dogs and Cats & Kittens will be at various Adoption Days during 2008. Who We Are

The Pet Adoption League, (P.A.L.) is a tax-exempt, 501(3)c charity. We are a dedicated volunteer group that gives much needed help to animal shelters, located in lower Westchester County, New York as individual rescue groups In addition P.A.L. helps place animals throughtout Westchester with our adoption referral program. Along with adoptions, P.A.L. also helps with the cost of medical care needed for the animals at the shelter. This volunteer group is the outgrowth of a noble vision in 1996, that a City Shelter could work with volunteers to save rather than kill adoptable animals. We helped change a small municipal animal shelter (which had a euthanasia rate of approx. 70%) to a much more humane facility. As a result of the hard work of volunteers and past Shelter administrator the euthanasia rate had dropped to 10% over the past several years. But our work is far from over. Remember when you adopt from the Pet Adoption League you are truly saving a life -- since many of the animals we help are at animal shelters. Our goal is to match the right pet to the right home. And "Pet Adoption League" provides an adoption kit to all adopters including our Adoptions Follow Up hotline numbers...got questions after you adopt, an adoptions counselor is only a phone call away.

P.A.L gives help to local animal shelters where there is limited space and overcrowding may occur. As a result, euthanasia becomes a very sad reality. So when you choose to adopt through us, you are truly helping to save a life. Please open your hearts and homes and save a life NOW.

Adopting a Friend

A great deal of effort goes into placing these pets in a home where human family members and animals are best suited to each other. While this is not an exact science, it certainly helps give the Shelter Director, staff and volunteers and idea of how best to place the animal in a "forever home". Along with evaluation testing, many of the dogs begin basic obedience lessons, and already know some basic commands.

Adoption Process

All of the animals to be adopted have been vaccinated. The adoption fees vary for puppies/kittens and adult dogs/cats. For more information, please call our P.A.L. adoption hotline at (914) 376-7183.

Please help our orphans!!!

We can ALWAYS use donations of blankets, towels, dog beds, dog chews and toys, as well as cat beds, scratch posts, cat toys, cat litter and treats. The animals greatly appreciate these items, which help give them some small enjoyment and comfort while they wait for their new homes! We also appreciate donations of kitten/puppy milk replacers, baby foods, and puppy/kitten wet and dry foods. Please call our P.A.L. hotline at (914) 376-7183 or e-mail us at pal_mv@yahoo.com to arrange for pick-up or drop-off of donated items.

URGENT PLEA - This year we have been hit hard by the unwanted/ stray cat situation. We have rescued many cats from outside situations and are in desperate need of donations to cover spay/neuter efforts. Just $35 will spay/nueter a cat!! With Pet Adoption League your generous donation goes in full directly to help save animals' lives. Pet Adoption League gives animals needed medical attention. Your donations will also be used to spay/neuter animals before they are adopted, and to promote adoption efforts through much needed advertising. Whatever you wish to give - $5, $10, $20 $40 - will help save a dog's or cat's life.

Volunteers Needed

Love animals? Want to be part of rewarding experience? Then call us to volunteer! We desperately need volunteers for many different tasks, from helping with fund-raising events to hands on care at the shelter. We need help with everything from walking dogs and brushing cats, to working from home to help with correspondence and web site maitenance. And we are also in desperate need of loving foster homes for orphaned kittens that are abandoned at the shelter. If you wish to volunteer, you must be 18 years old or older and complete a volunteer training course. If interested, please call our P.A.L. volunteer hotline at (914)423-2313 and our Volunteer Coordinator will get back to you and will forward you a Volunteer Package.

Spay and Neuter Programs

The Pet Adoption League (P.A.L.) is a designated “FRIENDS OF ANIMALS” Spay/Neuter certificate source. Whether you adopt through us or not, you can get the low cost Spay/Neuter certificates from us. For animals adopted from the shelter we assist, we belong to two other low cost Spay/Neuter programs. For additional information, please call our P.A.L. hotline at (914) 376-7183, or E-Mail us at pal_mv@yahoo.com. Please remember, spaying/neutering controls the unwanted pet population, and helps to stop the often tragic overcrowding at our shelters.
