Town of Newburgh Animal Shelter and Control Dept.
Every month is ADOPT A CAT MONTH. We have some handsome and beautiful guys and gals here just ready to end fall with a new family. Margaret Weber with Matts Cats also has lots of kittens for adoption - she can be reached at 564-1658.
Help the shelter bracelets now on sale at the shelter. We are in the process of collecting a $2.00 donation to help in the cost of enlarging our shelter. We are in need of more space to provide proper isolation areas for incoming animals and many other much needed spaces. We appreciate everyone's help. Together we can make it happen.
If you need a low cost spay/neuter for your cat, call the nice folks at Tara at 754-7100. Cost is only $65 which includes a rabies vaccine. Their great efforts will continue to help decrease the terrible cat over population problem.
If you are on any type of public assistance...Medicaid, Food Stamps, SSI, Family Assistance or Low Income Housing...you can qualify for a low cost spay/neuter of your dog or cat for ONLY $20.00. Your cat or dog can also receive vaccines at 50% lower than the customary rate. For more info...call the Agriculture & Markets Department at 888-669-0870 or visit them at www.agmkt.state.ny.us.ai.apc.html.
Please come visit our shelter and find out about all the wonderful donation funds that the Town has established to not only aid the cats, kittens and dogs at our shelter but also the feral cats.
Our T-92 account is used for a trap, spay/release program for the feral cats in the Town of Newburgh. This program is run by a great animal group called Matt's Cats. Cats are captured with humane havahart traps, spayed/released to the area where they were found. A caregiver makes sure food is supplied. Monetary donations and dry food is always needed. For more info, call Margaret Weber at 564-1658. Margaret also has cats/kittens for adoption.
Our T-93 account allow us to medically take care of the cats/kittens at the shelter. Some of these poor kitties are sick or injured when we find them. This fund also pays for their spay/neuters, all vaccines, testing for feline leukemia/aids and worming. Donations are always appreciated for this account.
The last donation account that we have is called the T-94 account is used to medically treat our dogs that have special conditions such as being positive for heartworm, a leg that needs to be pinned, etc... This account will, hopefully, someday (with your help) will be used to enlarge the size of our shelter so that we can be a model shelter for the animals in our community. In 2006 the shelter had a new roof and siding put on. During the month of October 2007, the insides of the dog kennels were renovated. At the present time, we are renovating the outdoor kennels.
The dog always like pig's ears, hoofs, can dog food. Cats always catnip toys, small treats, kitty litter, kitten formula, and can cat food.
The shelter is open to the public Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. On Saturday the shelter is open from 9 am to 4 pm. We are closed Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and holidays. We are, however, in the shelter on Monday and Wednesday for all animal related calls and questions.

Most Vets will give a FREE visit within one week of adoption.

Who We Are
Our adoptable dogs/cats for adoption are advertised through various forms of media. We find dogs that are abandoned on the streets or our door, abused in some way, or an owner fails to claim their dog when we find it.
The shelter staff sees that each dog receives the very best possible care. The shelter has 11 dog runs and outside access. We also have several fenced in enclosed areas that allow the dogs to have fresh air and exercise. We feel it is very important for our dogs peace of mind. We also spend time with each dog in order to get to know them before being placed in a new home. We will help you find a dog suitable to your family and lifestyle.
We also have cats and kittens for adoption at the shelter. These poor kitties are found abandoned at our door, seized due to investigation of a cruelty case or we have found them injured. We always care for them and spend quality time with them. Adoption fees are always lower for senior cats.
We not only take care of the dogs and cats but also provide Animal Control work for residents when they come across an animal other than a dog or cat that needs our help. We have rescued horses, cows, bulls, all types of birds, snapping turtles and all types of wildlife. Every day is an adventure. We don't have to watch Animal Planet...we are Animal Planet!!!
.
Remember always SPAY/NEUTER. Call us for organizations that offer low cost spay/neuter fees and vaccines.
