Sassy
Sassy is a Calico, Domestic Long Hair Mix. She is a pound rescue, where her owners had dropped her off, pregnant, with a badly infected abscess, Los Chavez Animal Rescue pulled her out of the local pound after she gave birth to 6 kittens, and brought her and the 6 kittens to the facility. She was taken in for surgery for the infected abscess in which drainage tubes was inserted, and dead tissue was removed due to maggots. Sassy and her babies survived.
"About Los Chavez Animal Rescue":
“Who We Are;
Los Chavez was formed over 5 years ago, when more and more pets were being dumped on the side of the road. We have given a lot of animals a second chance to a good home. The pets remains here for as long as it takes to get them a new home. Some has been with us over 2 years now. We were nominated for local hero to KOBTV4 news, aired March 2, 2001 at 6:00 PM. We were also on Channel 13 news on September 8, 2001 due to going above and beyond the call of duty rescuing helpless animals.
Los Chavez Animal Rescue is an all volunteer, non-profit Federal 501-C-3 no-kill rescue group and humane society with a full facility, and licensed through the Village of Los Lunas and a member of the Greater Los Lunas Chamber of Commerce and a member of Belen Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Better Business Bureau whose mission is:
* Help reduce the overpopulation problem by an aggressive spay/neuter campaign and placing the right pet in the right home.
educate the general public to pet responsibility, especially the need for spay/neuter. We offer humane education programs, including bite prevention, disaster preparedness, pet owner responsibility to schools and organizations.
*Rescue pets who need new homes by placing in new homes.
*A not-for-profit animal welfare organization, Los Chavez Animal Rescue does not receive federal, state or local tax dollars.
In Addition to nominal subscriptions, sponsorship and adoption fees, Los Chavez Animal Rescue relies heavily on donations from individuals, foundations, and local businesses who also have a commitment to animal welfare. Los Chavez Animal Rescue is looking for corporate sponsorships.
Los Chavez Animal Rescue provides adoption placement services and rescue services for people in Los Lunas, Valencia County and surrounding areas for stray or unwanted pets. We do some Pound Rescues. We do require a donation for all animals that comes through our placement service. The main goal of LCAR is to keep orphaned, neglected or unwanted animals out of the local pounds. LCAR encourages all pet owners to keep their pet for it’s entire life, give it all the love it deserves and have it spayed or neutered. LCAR does not put any animals to sleep. They are kept indefinitely in the LCAR placement facility until permanent qualified homes are found. All pets are given a vet check, shots and sterilized to prevent further over-population of pets. That is why your Help is needed NOW. Your financial contribution is greatly needed and much appreciated. Contributions are tax deductible. If you would like to make or send a donation to help support the many homeless animals we care for, we had to temporally close due to lack of funding and donations, so please help so we can open much sooner. Some has been with us a long time and many has been adopted with the help of PetFinders. In the year of 2001, over 5000 unwanted dogs and cats were put to death in the Valencia county animal control. LCAR encourages all pet owners to keep their pet for it’s entire life, give it all the love it deserves and have it spayed or neutered.
We are going to try new programs for the year of 2003.
Please remember, we are a no kill rescue organization and a 501(c)3 non profit corporation.
However, We need commitment and time from you too.
That is why your Help is needed NOW. Your financial contribution is greatly needed and much appreciated. Contributions are tax deductible. Please donate to help all of us. We are in desperate need of land to be donated with a house to live in that can help house more animals.

I rescue all types of pets, even from the local animal control. They are provided a safe haven until we find them a home, no matter how long it takes. All pets and animals are provided with veterinarian care, in which they are spayed, neutered and vaccinated. Adoption fees are varied so please contact us for adoption fees, which pays for the veterinarian care. Rescue service is free, but if your pets has a liter and you want us to place the litter, we do ask for a small donation. Out of State Adoption can work, but you will need to pay for transportation, and make arrangements. Please call for more information. We are a non-profit organization.http://www.loschavezanimalrescue.org/
News:
Please Help Keep Our Doors Open:
We had just opened the largest cageless feline shelter in Valencia County, quite possibly the State of New Mexico and now due to lack of adoptions, donations, support, etc, we are always in danger of closing our doors. All our cats that are fixed, vaccinated and so forth, are available for adoption to good homes. Since our effort, time, volunteers, and our own personal money was put in to the feline shelter and into the felines, and received very little support during grand opening, or should I say "LACK OF SUPPORT" and other problems such as volunteers for adoption fairs, etc.
Many felines are here, will be here, available for adoption, all the time. If Interested in adoption please contact Los Chavez Animal Rescue at 505-565-1425. We are done completing the new cat shelter, the only one in Valencia County and the largest. We are in danger of forever having to close our doors due to lack of adoptions, donations and supplies. During the year of 2001 & 2002, Los Chavez Animal Rescue has made a difference in over 1500 homeless animals lives, that has been rescued and placed into much better homes. In the year of 2001, over 5000 unwanted dogs and cats were put to death in the Valencia county animal control.
LCAR encourages all pet owners to keep their pet for it’s entire life, give it all the love it deserves and have it spayed or neutered. Los Chavez presently has many cats. Please contact us if you want to adopt one of them, or mail contribution to the address below. please mail a contribution to help us, we are remodeling our facilities because we are going to be a all feline, small farm animals, reptile rescue and horse rescue. Due to lack of funding and donations and space, we are changing the face of Los Chavez Animal Rescue, so please help so we can open much sooner.
Please donate to help all of us. We are in desperate need of land to be donated with a house to live in that can help house more animals, a full tune up and tires for a Dodge Dakota pick up truck, that are used to rescue the animals, and transport them.
For Volunteer Opportunities:
For Los Chavez Animal Rescue:
We are going to try a new program for the year of 2002.
Our Programs:
Program #1.
Quarterly Newsletter;
We are going to be doing a quarterly newsletter for anyone who wants to subscribe and can join with a annual subscription donation of $25.00. This newsletter will be published every quarter and in it will be news, ideas, updates, quarterly status of all rescued animals and adopted animals from Los Chavez animal rescue and from the Valencia County Animal Shelter, special cases, events, adoption fair schedules, special projects, and a classified section for things like for sale, lost and found, etc.
Program #2.
Pet Sponsorships;
We are redoing our pet sponsor program.
#A: We want to recruit sponsors who are willing to sponsor a rescued cat or kitten by helping cover the cost of all vaccinations, spaying and/or neuter. With this type of sponsorship, we could have extra funds for emergency care .We have many cats and kittens that needs to get a sponsor.
Male cats for all vaccines, and neuter is $50.00,
Female cats for all vaccines and spay is $60.00.
#B:
Another way to sponsor a feline is for $25.00 per month, you can sponsor a cat each month, this fee covers its stay here at LCAR, and pays for its food, litter, toys, grooming, and extra medical care it may need. We are unable to take in anymore until we adopt out at least half. This way each cat can have a sponsor until they are adopted, and when we do take in new cats and kittens, we will ask the people who brings it to us to help cover the cost of the shots, spaying and/or neuter or sponsorship.
Program #3.
Pet Sitting;
We offer pet sitting, home sitting and home care, we have a professional home health aide who can take care of your pets and you. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
Program #4.
Used Items to sell;
We are looking for used items to sell at garage sales, flea markets, etc that would help fund Los Chavez Animal Rescue. Items can be furniture, household items, and other misc. items in good condition. We can pick up any items you may want to donate.
Program #5.
Raffle Items;
We are seeking donations of items to use as prizes in raffle ticket sales. This is another way for fundraising.
Please remember, we are a no kill rescue organization and a 501(c)3 non profit corporation.
It is our hopes that the year of 2003 will be a much better year for the animals, present and future and for the Los Chavez Animal Rescue.
