Who We Are...
The Little Egg Harbor Animal Rescue (LEHAR) - Strays and Us
LEHAR is a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue dedicated to finding safe and loving homes for deserving dogs and cats
in need in the southern Ocean County area. We are run solely by volunteers and depend on donations to continue.(we get no State funding)
Founded in 1993, LEHAR is concerned about the large number of wonderful pets that are euthanized
in shelters every year. Last year we were able to help over 700 dogs and cats find safe and loving homes.(3500 dogs and cats died in the 2 Ocean County animal shelters last year)Our goals for 1998 include lowering the euthanasia rate at local shelters and making a low cost spay clinic available in our area.
Adoptions...
All pets over twelve weeks are spayed and
vaccinated. Puppies and kittens are spayed/neutered before being adopted out, and come with a free veterinary examination.

Services...
In addition to the services mention above, we offer...
Feral cat assistance - Many people in our area are feeding stray "outside" cats that are un-socialized. We encourage and assist people in spaying and vaccinating these yard cats. This eliminates more generations of kittens, who must struggle to survive outside.(80 feral cats werespayed/neutered and vaccinated last year)
Volunteers...

We are also always in need of food and litter(scoopable please),blankets,bedding and toys.(you can drop off donations at one of our adoption sites or contact us to have someone pick it up)
