Our Pet List

Who We Are

The American Maltese Association is the National AKC recognized parent breed club for Maltese. The AMA began a National Rescue Program for Maltese in 1995. Volunteers that support our breed rescue program consist of both members and non-members who share a love for the breed and a commitment to ensure unwanted, homeless Maltese are placed in warm, loving homes. In addition to adoption and foster services, we can provide assistance and recommendations to Maltese owners. In many cases we can assist with behavioral problems that might have otherwise turned into a future homeless situation.

The national rescue program is chaired by LaDonna Mosley. Regional coordinators are located in various parts of the country. The AMA National Rescue Program provides adoption services for Maltese being surrendered by their owners, either privately or through shelters. We also provide temporary foster homes when available to care for abused, sickly, and homeless Maltese until such time when they can be placed in permanent homes. Maltese that require temporary foster care are kept and loved in pre-approved private homes with knowledgeable, caring individuals.

There is no way to predict where and when Maltese may become available for adoption. The less specific the request , the quicker and more likely we are to have the perfect pet for you. Please keep an open mind and check our pet list on a regular basis as our list of Maltese available for adoption changes constantly.

Adopting a Friend

All potential homes are screened to determine the appropriateness for a Maltese to ultimately select the absolute best pet home for these beautiful little dogs. Whenever possible, home visits are made. An adoption fee of $250.00 is requested at the time of adoption.
