Special Services:
Humane Services staff are available to visit schools and community groups to speak about the humane treatment of all animals and responsible pet ownership. If you are interested in a visit from one of our staff members or would like a shelter tour, please call 754 - 2489 (CITY)during regular working hours.
Who We Are
We are an animal care and adoption centre operated by the City of St. John's that offers the following services:
* provides shelter and medical care for animals that are roaming the streets, injured, lost or abandoned.
* rescues injured animals that have been struck by automobiles or suffered some other form of injury.
* delivers legal notices to owners who allow their pets to roam the streets or cause a public disturbance.
* operates an after hour emergency service for calls involving aggressive and/or injured dogs and cats.
*educates the public on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare issues.
* finds new, responsible homes for as many homeless pets as is possible.
* issues pet i.d. tags and keeps a computerized registration system.
* keeps lost and found animal reports

Cats and Kittens: $30.00 Adoption Fee
* All cats and kittens must be examined and vaccinated by a vet of your choice within 2 working days of the adoption.
* You will recieve a 25% discount off your first vet visit.
* All kittens must be spayed/neutered by the time they reach 6 months of age. Adult cats must be spayed/neutered within 2 months.
Dogs and Puppies: $50.00 Adoption Fee
* All dogs and puppies must be examined and vaccinated by a vet of your choice within 2 working days of the adoption.
* You will receive a 25% discount off your first visit. Don't forget to bring a copy of your adoption policy.
* All puppies must be spayed/neutered by the time they reach 6 months of age. Adult dogs must be spayed/neutered within 2 months.
Humane Services strongly recommends that all cat owners keep their pets as indoor cats.
No dogs or puppies will be adopted out as hunting dogs or outdoor/guard dogs.
