The next rotation of dogs entering the program will be on Monday October 20th, 2008. They are scheduled to graduate Friday December 19th, 2008. After successfully submitting a Pet Adopter Survey, appointments may be scheduled during the 9 week training rotation to visit any pet you may be interested in adopting. We recommend that adoptions be finalized before the graduation date. We DO NOT ship animals out of state, adopters must be able to pick up their pets and take the 1 hour training class in person. Who We Are
Nebraska State Penitentiary inmates volunteer in the K-9 PenPals program to obedience train and socialize dogs selected from the Beatrice Humane Society, Capital Humane Society and Central NE Humane Society. The dogs go through a 9 week course of obedience training.
These K-9 PenPals become better canine citizens and have a second chance at a life long relationship with a loving family. They are available for adoption througout their training rotation.
This program is a true form of rehabilitation for the inmates. Inmates must focus on a dog and their needs rather than just thinking about themselves and their situation. Inmates are also given a chance to give back to society in a positive manner and contribute to a solution for the growing problem of uncared for and unwanted animals.

Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting from our program all potential adopter's are asked to fill out a Dog Adopter Survey to better help us determine which dog might be best suited for your family and lifestyle. Please send us an email stating you are interested in a Survey form and we will forward, mail or fax a form to you. All of our dogs available for adoption have been neutered/vaccinated/checked for internal parasites and heartworm and are on a heartworm preventative.
